Regarding play style improvement: this might not be fit for everyone, but something that helped me understand mafia games better, and thus ameliorate my in-game performances, was to explore other mafia communities around the internet. Not necessarily play games everywhere (although that can only be beneficial) but just read completed games and try to learn from the experienced players. Not all mafia communities play the same way, and seeing some diversity is pretty helpful.

Playing a newbie game on mafiascum helped me tremendously, personally, so that could be something interesting to try.

I don't think you'll have to worry that much about other games - more games running also means that that many players will be killed/lynched in those games and will be looking for another game to play in. Due to the awful timing that the big mafia games started sign-ups, we haven't had a new game opening for sign-ups for rather a while. Also, your game is based on a theme that many are familiar with, that's a bonus.

Yeah you shouldn't worry to much about your game. It being MLP:FiM almost everyone will want to play. So even when it starts I think I can safely say it will be filled up in a day or so.

Ah, thanks guys...I guess we'll find out soon, since it's moved up to the #2 spot on the waiting list and it looks like a couple games are pretty far along. I'm not really concerned with the theme so much as the fact that, well, this is my first time hosting a game so I want to make sure that it's a good one. I know I tend to lurk a lot and may not be the most popular person around here or play in the most games and I'm not even that great of a player, so I'm really just hoping that people are excited about it and willing to sign up despite it being my first time hosting. Ryuu was a big help while I was making and balancing the roles, and he liked the intro/opening flavor text I wrote, but I've still got butterflies

@Feliciano; I understand you, first time hosting a mafia game made me nervous too.
Hosting a mafia game requires different skills from playing, you don't need to worry. These things are best learned by actually hosting a game, don't be afraid of mistakes ^_^

You have plenty of people that will help you if you face issues as a host. And not only the staff - if all the staff are playing your game, try contacting a user that have hosted a mafia game in the past and isn't playing. An experienced user that is dead in your mafia game (and assured that they have no chances to return as a player) is also a good source for advice when you need it.

He was a huge help in building the game. He was the one who went through and helped me think of all the roles and make sure it was balanced, and then helped me construct the rules after that was all done.
