Favorite character?

Who is your favorite character? Mine is Madoka; she's adorable! :D

Mine is probably Kyoko. Say what you will about her attitude, she was mostly right.

I always seem to have a thing for the morally-ambiguous, cold characters.

Sayaka, without a doubt. I could really feel for her because everything she did was for someone else, but she had it all thrown back in her face, which is something I think we can all relate to. She loved Kyosuke and wanted him to be happy, but then she discovered the true horror of what she had become, then she was backstabbed by Hitomi (who is a total bitch). Besides, Gen Urobuchi (the writer) has admitted to bullying her >>.

I have a figma of her on my shelf =3.

I have to say Madoka.

She is just so selfless, innocent, pure and adorable.

Really, she's a "total bitch" because she encouraged Sayaka to go for the guy she wanted - the guy they both wanted, but she gave Sayaka a chance first - and then when Sayaka didn't take it, decided that she had the right to act on her feelings then? Going after a friend's boyfriend or ex is one thing, but if a friend has never dated a guy, and refuses to do anything to make her affections known, she has no claim on him, and normally, there would be no reason for her to keep a friend who also liked him from going after him herself. And Hitomi had no way of knowing that this wasn't just a normal "my friend and I like the same guy" situation, since nobody told her anything about Sayaka's activities as a magical girl. We have to judge Hitomi's actions through the lens of what she knew, not what we, the viewers, know.

Think about it - Kyosuke had been in the hospital for ages due to the accident, she must have known that Sayaka had constantly visited him during the undisclosed time he was in. Then, when he's discharged, she suddenly decides "I'm going to give Sayaka one day to sort out the complicated feelings she must have before I jump on him". Isn't it obvious that while it would be great news that he's out of the hospital, it would make Sayaka an emotional mixed bag?

At least the anime was nicer than the PSP game though...

Still, I saw it less as her being malicious and more that she's an immature preteen girl who is anxious to go after the guy she likes but feels the need to give her friend who liked him first/spent time with him in the hospital her chance first. I think it's more the kind of lack of empathy that is typical of people that age and less outright bitchitude (is that a word? it should be).

Also, where did you get your Sayaka figma? I'd like to get one of her or of Kyoko.

I purchased it from up1.co.uk. I was going to buy the Kyoko, but then I saw they had Sayaka in stock.

Yeah, Sayaka's probably second for me. Probably because I had a crush on a guy who Kyosuke kind of reminds me of (somewhat - this guy had bigger issues than simply that his instrument was his life, as Gen Urobuchi said was the reason Sayaka would never be happy with him), so I can empathize with her a lot.

And oddly enough, I also had a friend who had a crush on him, too! But neither of us ever had a chance with him, and so it actually became something that drew us closer rather than driving us apart (and our friendship ended around the time the crush did, since I realized we really didn't have much else in common).
