There's a theory about the Striaton triplets being the Shadow Triad. The fact that the trios are never seen at the same time casts suspicion. For whose who don't know: the Shadow Triad (Japanese: Dark Trinity) are three androgynous, ninja-like people employed by Team Plasma. They show no emotion, and can teleport. So, do you believe this theory? Why or why not? And would Cilan being part of the Triad explain his behavior? Or is he naturally evil?
Believe it, love it, want it to be made canon sooooooo badly... I think it could possibly explain some of his behaviour. He certainly isn't the most normal guy around. The Dark Trinity say how Ghetsis saved their lives, so maybe the traumatic experience of them nearly dying is why he talks in spices and flavours, a lot more than Carbarnet did at any rate. Plus, I like to think being a sommelier is a way to criticise the relationship between people and Pokémon when believable (Carbarnet) to break down bonds, and increase the chance of releasing once Team Plasma make their speeches.

I agree with Iteru, the skills of a sommelier would be very useful for Team Plasmas goals, and provide a way to garner publicity around cases of Pokemon abuse. Cilan's hair is also vaguely similar to Ghetsis', make of that what you will...
