I don't have autism, but I owe a lot to the autistic community for the work they'd done in eliminating the stigma against non-neurotypicals. They were also the ones who inspired me to accept my mental illness. I'm fascinated by autism and I get sick of people railing on people with autism.
I've noticed that lately, on the Internet, all someone has to do is say they have Asperger's, and the neurotypical crowd stops taking them seriously. There are some ugly stereotypes about Asperger's, and I wish people would take the time to educate themselves before making snap judgments.
*pokes head in* Um, I have Asperger's...it's very mild and I'm on the very edge of the spectrum, but it's still there. I was diagnosed when I was 13.
I have Asperger's. I was diagnosed when I was 5 in the UK and 8 in the US. Frankly, I wouldn't want to be neuro-typical, just to be like everyone else. I like who I am, and if anyone has a problem with that, they can meet Mr. Hammer.
I have Asperger's. Back in elementary my school didn't look in to whether or not I had it JUST CAUSE I HAD FRIENDS. But I got diagnosed when i was 13. I get sad sometimes because I won't make anything as awesome as Pokemon.

Anyone else on Risperidone?
Well, I joined the group but didn't reply. Anyway, I only found out I have Asperger's when I was only 19 or 20, because my sister told me about it and it fit some of my behaviour, like the use of uncommon words (I do like to use the more complex words too). So yeah, it's the reason I joined this group.
Anyway, Muk-a-matic wants to join this group too, and he wants to meet people who are under this category. He asked me to send this message:
I have been diagnosed as having the condition since 7th Grade. I would like to join so I can meet others like me, because I find people who have the same condition as myself very cool. Please and thank you.
Thanks for reading.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was a newborn.
