I like it when they're not all jokes. They bored me when they were trying to be funny. And the dub's writing killed them in Sinnoh.
Hmmm... that's a tough question. At first I was really excited the Rockets went serious, but I gotta say as time went on, I sorta started to care less about them when they pulled their usual capture the pokémon of the day schtick. I think it has a lot to do with BW023-BW024 not bieng aired but it just doesn't feel like what they're doding is leading anywhere and there's not really funny anymore, so I just don't really pay attention to them.
Though I really liked them in BW029, but I don't want to see the return of the goofy incompetent Team Rocket. I also think it was a good move not to include them in every episode.
Overall, I'm very lukewarm at the moment towards Team Rocket.
At first i liked them in their new serous fashion, But now I'm starting to think it was pointless keeping them. The personality's that made them popular have been replaced so why not just replace the characters themselves.
They kicked ass plenty of times before BW, too. They also had their moments where they were cool, competent, sexy, and all the other things people praise the BW Rocket trio for.Quote:

I thought the writers were keeping the whole thing ambiguous on purpose. Of course, it's obvious the trio got a promotion before the start of Best Wishes!, but I don't think they've ever actually said so outright.
I think they would have been better if they kept their comical personalities, but still could suceed in missions, and appeared like they do in BW-only for a few minutes in episodes, not in every episode, and not always interacting with Ash and co.
I've given this a lot of thought, but I'm going to go with present-day TR over pre-BW TR.
My issue with the Team Rocket trio was had little to do with competence. They did provide the show with plenty of much needed action and suspense. I'll give them that at least.
My problem was that Jessie, James, and Meowth were never really credible villains to the show. There were plenty of episodes where they forgot their duties, acted on completely preposterous logic, or acted unbelievably impulsively.
For starters, no matter how effective or prolonged Team Rocket's heists were, they always ended in complete and utter humiliation... mostly due to the traditional 'blast off.' At very best, they would retreat in a manner that is far less dignified than they do now.
Then of course, you have plenty of episodes where one or more members of the trio would compete in some sort of contest. But whether they won or lost, whether they played by the rules or not, these contests had nothing whatsoever to do with their duties as Team Rocket members.
Next, we have Meowth's boss fantasy sequences. At least some of them are funny. But the notion that after hundreds of failures, the big boss is going to give them a promotion just because he arrives at the conclusion that the Pokemon they bring him will provide some trivial convenience, is utterly absurd.
Also, I've lost count of how many times the trio has aided Ash and/or his friends, or at least cheered them on when they didn't need to. (the only time TR and Ash and co. were on the same side, was when their lives were all on the line.)
Then of course you have all those times where they would go out of their way to steal something as trivial as food (we all need to eat, but do they seriously need giant mechas to accomplish this).
Finally, you have numerous occasions where the trio would unwittingly cause trouble because of their recklessness, effectively putting themselves in the line of fire.
Best Wishes is still young, but at least since BW25, the Team Rocket has been pretty well balanced. They are focused, disciplined, and they plane ahead. But at the same time, they always fail to steal Pokemon in the end (what else would you expect).
I also like the fact that the Anime doesn't feel the need to have them in episodes where needed to provide suspense or conflict.
My only complaint (other than the transition to this positive change) is that they went back to wearing their white uniforms. What was the point of changing their uniforms in the first place if they were just going to go back to the way they were before.
So in other words, you didn't like the comedy relief villains for acting like...comedy relief villains?Quote:

It seems like a lot of the reasons people didn't like the pre-BW Rocket trio is because they weren't fulfilling a role they were never created to fulfill in the first place.
I think the writers just did the total opposite of what they did before with them. Sadly, I feel that's become a trend of Best Wishes. The writers are doing differents not because it's better written, or more compelling, more interesting, but just for the sake of doing something different. The results so far, in this and other areas of the show, have been somewhat lackluster. Rather than improving a good formula but that still had a lot of room to be improved, they went completely against that formula.

I hate what was done to the BW Rocket trio because the writers have turned them to emotionless robots who are fucking boring to watch. I don't require them to have some balance between competent and goofy; I just want them to be entertaining.
I just loved the Rockets in BW29, and I wish the Rockets would be used for other plot-lines rather than just trying to steal the daily Pokémon. That doesn't give them any development in my opinion, since they still fail like before. (Btw, I would sort of love if there was a line from Sakaki/Matori/Seger etc. that implied that they have been successful in stealing Pokémon off-screen when Saotshi-tachi hasn't been around.)
Otherwise, I'm happy about the BW Rockets and all that. Just use them more creatively, writers!
this post here. It was was just a counterpoint to the notion that they haven't reverted back to their former "comedic selves." Of course, the trio has already made three more episode appearances since. But that's another thing I want to point out.
Team Rocket have only had four episode appearances since their presumed reversion back in BW025. We don't know what will happen down the road. But I like what I've seen so far. The trio actually uses high-tech gadgetry to entrap the heroes, rather then relying on the generic pitfall trap. And the battles are still as engaging as ever. And I like how they actually maintain some of their dignity after losing in the end. You don't necessarily have to make people laugh in order to be entertaining or engaging.
One thing I also noticed is that BW TR is starting to get a little creepy as well. One big thing that slightly creeps me out is the way they redesigned their eyes. They look so bright yet evil. Another thing is BW 29 when Segar was talking about actually using the Litwick in his experiments (keeping in mind that they suck out the life energy of people. I'm sure there's more, but those are the two things that stuck out.
