    Question Saving?

I'm kinda amazed that there isn't a thread like this already, but whatever.

Anyway, we've always had a save system where we go into our menu, click save, and it asks us if you want to save, then we chose yes and it saves. Well, since this pair of Pokemon games are on the 3DS, it has the capabilities to save when we close our software. Owners of Mario Kart 7 saw this capability.

So will we stick to the old system, unchanged? Or will we turn to the 3DS? Or even, will the old system be used with a few new capabilities, like saving and returning to the title menu?

    What do you guys think?

I don't play Mariokart so I'm not sure this is quite what you're getting at, but... autosaving when you close out of the game? That would make resetting for natures or shininess on legends and events impossible, wouldn't it?

Id like to see the game save when closing my 3DS. Often times I will close my DS and forget about it, even to the point where my battery runs out and so it then of course dies, I see this new option as a potential safeguard to losing data this way and would be good in general, especially if a player does not save their game often. Of course manual saving should remain as well, as it always has been in Pokemon games.

Now that you brought this up, this is actually a valid concern. I myself frequently save often before battling legendaries in case I KO them. An autosave feature would certainly make this much more difficult, and I'm kind of opposed to the idea now.

Of course, it's possible that they won't implement this. But it's still also possible that they could...

    @YamiiDenryuu; @Aquanova; @Isamu Akai;

Basically, when you go to the home menu, and chose close software, it will save and then close the software.

However, I believe that if you manual save then straight up turn off the power by pressing and holding the power button, it won't do that save thing.

Isn't there now a feature that if you KO a legendary, you can beat the Elite Four again and then the legendary reappears? It's been that way since HG/SS at least. If this feature gets implemented, it would be inconvenient, sure, but it's not like you lose it forever.

Well even so, I'd rather just reload my save file whenever a legendary gets KOed, especially considering the amount of time it takes for legendaries to stay in the damn ball.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Im under the impression that it would only automatically save if you clicked the Home button and closed the software or put it in sleep mode, not at any other time.

I'd rather see multiple save files than automatic save for this game. I don't know about that feature Whiplash mentioned above. Is it true? If it is I'd still save the game before trying to get a legendary anyway, just to be sure.
I prefer to do it that way. Doing it manually means that you're sure about what you're doing. If it is included I hope it's optional. Multiple save files could be a better addition; that way we can have a backup if our current file gets damaged for example, or so you can even lend the game to someone else, just making yourself sure that he/she won't save his/her game on your file (in any case, that's what backups are for.

Mario Kart is a game series that has made use of autosave for a very long time - the nature of the Pokemon games (and most of the RPG genre) simply wouldn't make it work. Although it sticks to one save file, Pokemon often has events such as legendary Pokemon captures and difficult battles that'd make an autosave function a logistical nightmare. I can't see the feature being implemented in any future RPG titles.

Maybe there could be an On/Off switch under Options, that would solve the whole legendary problem.

Um yeah they wouldn't do an auto-save feature for Pokemon. Even if they did, I don't think they'd have it auto-save during a battle. Besides, not every 3DS game has auto-save. I have The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and you must save manually before exiting the game.

But I would like multiple save files. In this day and age, where most (if not all) games have multiple save files now, there's no excuse not to. I shouldn't have to resort to unorthodox methods just to play a certain Pokemon game again without deleting my save file.

    Absolutly fine how it is.

bit of a pointless feature if they did include it.

Dout they will have auto save it is not an online only mmo. Soft Resetting is part of the game and one that many people find enjoyable (or hate but can't stop...like shiny gambling).

Though if they do want to go down the autosave/online only route that blocks SR/RNG/Haxs/Pokegen abuse I dout the SRers who collect rare stuff would really mind since the stuff they did spent hundreds of hours collecting would feel more valuable.

I don't have a 3DS, but according to this, it's not really an autosave at all. It only seems like a shortcut of the whole save+shutdown process, saving you a few button presses. If this is really the case, then it's a welcome feature.

But what is there to change about the saving system anyway? It serves its purpose as it is. The only big change I can see them doing (something that's already been discussed here) is introducing an autosave feature, which really does not work for adventure RPGs like Pokémon. It will be nightmarish to not be able to redo something just because you accidentally closed the device's lid.
