Thread: Rumour Discussion and Speculation

During the run-up to the release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games this October we are sure to see a wealthy stream of information coming from various places across the web, especially considering the international release that this generation is seeing. However, as always, there will be those who make up rumours or fake scans for a variety of reasons. Every piece of confirmed information will be added to this thread. However, sometimes some things might appear from sources other than the usual suspects, so if you come across something that you're not sure about, feel free it here and let other people debunk or confirm a rumour or leak.

As a rule of thumb, official websites and affiliates (such as Nintendo.com, Pokémon.com and OfficialNintendoMagazine.co.uk can be trusted), but the following independent sources can be trusted:

3. Pokéxperto

And these can't be trusted:

4. Reddit

Also, if a post involves the story "I work/Know someone who works at Nintendo/GameFreak", it's most likely fake and not worth even reading.

Obviously these lists will be updated when more information surfaces, but this is just a starter.

serebii.net is a pretty good source, too.
Here's one:
"Some new details have popped up online in regards to the trainers in the upcoming Nintendo 3DS exclusive video games, “Pokemon X” and “Pokemon Y.” According to a report by Leviathyn on Feb. 22, the male and female main characters will be called Jean and Jane. The names can’t be customized. Moreover, the trainer is displayed on the bottom screen of the Nintendo 3DS and will be giving commands using a “speech bubble interface” during battles. Finally, a new leveling system for the trainers will change how they will interact with non-playable characters, the success of capturing a Pokemon in addition to the encounter rate with rare creatures."

I think this is fake, because of the line bolded above. This would be pretty realistic if for not that one line. Pokemon would NEVER do that. The rest, well, it's pretty unrealistic, but not as much as the bolded line.

I read that one last night. Pretty sure it's 100% fake. The Gear thing also seemed like it was lifted from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Time/Darkness/Time and the Bond and trainer levelling from Pokémon Conquest.

For the record, that line about customization was originally referring to the designs, not the names. I still don't think it's true because some of the other stuff that supposed leaker posted sounded like nonsense, but the "names aren't customizable" thing as least isn't what he actually said.

Yeah, the other stuff is weird and would never happen. I think it's fake, just confirming.

Although at the same time, it's not 100% impossible for Gamefreak to change the names of the types... That said, I don't know what the original source for it is. I've searched and could not come to a definitive conclusion.

Remember Pokémon is (theoretically, VERY theoretically xD) focused for kids, so it's VERY unlikely the types will be ever displayed in kanji. Even when GF implemented the kana/kanji switch in Gen V, types remained written in kana.

And even if that's the case, the Fire-type is written as ほのお, and that's hiragana for 炎. not 火

Alright, I can accept that. The way you said it, it made it sound like you were jumping to conclusions.

That's fake because it was made before the names of Xerneas and Yveltal were revealed, iirc, as the original version of that I saw had different names for them.

Also, 2chan is just the Japanese version of 4chan. The only reason it's more "reliable" is because that's usually where CoroCoro gets posted since, you know, Japanese people have access to it.
