It was revealed in HGSS that Mr. Pokémon had obtained the Red and Blue Orbs from his friend in Hoenn. The orbs had been guarded at Mt. Pyre for thousands of years before the Magma/Aqua story, so it would make no sense if it turned out that the Mt. Pyre couple parted with the orbs at a time when they feared the outcome of awakening Groudon and Kyogre. They had to have given the orbs to Mr. Pokémon (or possibly to May/Brendan who then gave them to Mr. Pokémon, whom they would know from their past in Johto) after Groudon and Kyogre were no longer a threat.

Bear in mind that the above explanation does not assume that the Embedded Tower's Weather trio are necessarily the same ones from the Hoenn games (although I'd say that's very likely to be the case); all that matters is that we know for a fact that the orbs originated from Hoenn.

I see, that makes sense.

EDIT: now that I think of it, the Hoenn games taking place before the Johto games needn't neccesarily mean we won't see Gold, Silver, or Lyra if Gamefreak really wanted them to appear, as they could just take the time machine. Doesn't sound very likely, though.

What time machine? Do you mean Celebi? The Time Capsule wasn't a story element.

Ethan and Lyra could show up anywhere and at any time, but it would be silly if they interfered with the fabrics of time and space just to battle May/Brendan. I had expected to see May/Brendan in HGSS due to the fact that they were said to have moved from Johto (so it would have made sense had they returned to their hometown at some point), but that didn't happen.

It doesn't exist in HGSS. Even in Generation II it had no bearing on the story (unlike FRLG's Network Machine which had an entire quest dedicated to it).

It was still there, so if gamefreak really wanted to, they could bypass the chronology issue in that way. As I said, though, it seem rather unlikely.

Actually I think it'd be interesting for Ethan or Lyra to travel back in time. But 1)How would they then get to Hoenn once they traveled back and 2)What would they come back for? Just to battle you? That would only make sense if they'd heard about some legendary trainer who saved Hoenn or something.

If they pulled of time travel, getting to Hoenn is no problem. Celebi may be better known as the time travel Pokemon, but if the HgSs events has shown us anything, Celebi's time travel abilities also travels through space.

But really, if they're going back in time, there better be a damn good reason.

There was no time machine in HgSs, so I don't know why you're saying it was still there.

Who's to say that GF won't completely re-do the RSE story to the point where the orbs aren't included? Or that part of the plot actually ties in to the orbs having been in Johto? Or that GF will completely retcon/ignore the fact that the obs appeared in Johto?

Although GF traditionally keeps pretty close to the original story line when doing remakes, they could really mix things up if they wanted to. Tradition doesn't mean that things can't be changed, ever.

Who said they had to be different colors? HGSS were the same colors as their originals.

I think Generation I and Generation III happened simultaneously, actually.

Hmm, just bringing up another topic on this; it would be awesome if the Gym Leaders could be rematched. And the Elite Four, and they all have diff Pokemon.

Like Steven would probably still have his full-Hoenn team. But Drake would have, like, Haxorus or something.

Then again, Nintendo would probably make that happen after you play over 90000 hours of the game and beat the Elite Four and both villainous teams while attempting to calm Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza... ugh =_=

They'd never ever do that... the Orbs are far to big a part of the story to through out... Ethen and Lyra have no buisness i Hoenn as they weren't even trainers at that point in time... SO I don't see any other PC's being fought unless Red took a vaction to Hoen before going to liv n Mt. Silver? Ethen/Lyra/Dawn/Lucas/Hilber/Hilda weren't trainers three years ago and since B/W aperetly takes place 5 years after HG/SS/Pt thats 8 years after the evednts of Gen I/III

Ethan and Lyra COULD appear if they traveled back in time. Personally I think it would be more likely for you as either May or Brendan to travel forward in time and then travel to Johto. Gen's 1 and 3 took place simultaneously. Gen 2 (Ethan and Lyra's time) was 3 years later.

The big reason I don't see any time travel like this happening is that if you traveled to the future and battled say Lyra, that would be like GF saying that Lyra is the main character for the Gen 2 games. Something they haven't been willing to confirm one way or the other.
