I hope they won't bring back Rock Smash and Dive as HM's.
The only HM's should be Surf, Fly and Strength.
Waterfall, Cut and Dive should then be TM's.

What difference does it make whether they are HMs or not. Moves that are an absolute must to progress in the game are always HMs. They could remove the Rock Smash compulsion and replace it but Dive has to remain an HM.

The story of Team Aqua's return - New draft to replace the horrible old one coming Feb 2012!
New Hoenn HMs:
Those were the best/most interesting IMO (apart from Cut, but that's a classic), the one that got De-HMed & similar (e.g. Rock Smash, Defog etc.) can be normal field move TMs. Of course, I find myself wondering what the real difference between HMs & TMs is nowadays...
See, I think that's the problem with Pokémon - your travel is very restricted until you defeat the elite four. Unova's the worst for it; when I first saw the Unova map I I liked it primarily because I thought the hexagonal part surrounding Entralink were two different paths you could take to the top. Instead, you absolutely have to travel through the region in a very strict & controlled way - you can't challenge the gyms in different orders or travel a different combination of routes to the E4. They need to stop that (like they did with Johto, Kanto & Sinnoh) for any Hoenn remakes/sequels IMO.
Speaking of Dive, I wonder how the mechanic would be implemented in the remakes. Like would their be a huge graphical overhaul to utilize the 3DS's (presuming of course) 3D capabilities? Will their be a phenomena mechanic (i.e. Shaking Seaweed to capture, say, Relicanth)? Maybe an upgrade on the original premise to include new mechanics or quests?
Hell, the best thing they could do for the game is make HMs forgettable. Then they could just have all TMs that have uses outside battle as HMs.
@Alpha: I liked the phenomena thing, and it allows to make rarer pokemon easier to get, and a larger pool of pokemon, so I'd like to see it.
Come on, this is Pokemon. They will not get rid of HM's, it just won't happen.
I'm wondering if they are going to expand the Desert Area and the Dive areas. The Desert Area could be upgraded, expanded and become more centralized in the plot. In the original's it actually wasn't neccessary to go their during the game, only housing a ledgendary, a fossil Pokemon and some other good Pokemon. Ic could be greatly expanded, possibly towards the the south (just above the Winstrate family) or more to the west (nearing the Fiery Path and Lavaridge town).
The underwater routes could be expanded too, and there could be some minor sidequests revolving around the underwater areas around Lilycove or Mossdeep City.
@Apen: I never understood the logic behind that. If you can forget it, you can also relearn it to the pokemon, so you can't get stuck in any area.
Except in a lot of places, like Pacifidlog, or Sootopolis if you were to release all your Pokemon except for a Sunkern, waste all your money and then throw away all your possessions.
Congratulations, you're trapped.
Unova basically gets rid of that problem, buy Hoenn's geography still allows one to be trapped.
I don't know about getting rid of HMs, I just think they need to make the distinction between HMs & TMs more clear-cut, other than the annoyance of having to go to the move deleter to get rid of them.
I think it would be good i they expanded on Hoennese mythology in general, too; that was one of the things that made previous regions like Johto such good regions IMHO - they are steeped in rich, interesting background legends & myths. The same particularly applies for Unova e.g. with the Abyssal Ruins.
I think if you did that you probably deserve to be trapped.
Wouldn't you still have a fishing rod? Old Rod could be basically forced upon you to make sure you couldn't get stuck.
I think that all HMs should be transformed into TMs because you can let your Pokemon forget them. I hate going to Move Deleter, and he's always late in the game for some reason.
^^Well, it could be like the Bicycle is in Black/White. You have to save the old man who gives it later gives it to you.
They could adapt this into an Aqua/Magma grunt trying to steal the Old Rod from a fisherman to catch some good Pokemon. You have to protect the fisherman and battle the grunt. He then gives it to as you seem a worthy trainer.
...Then you realise it's a Old Rod.
.....Or they'll just keep it in the same place as last time.... :p
