Re: Game Freak promise to expand the Pokémon world next year I don't think it's going to be Ruby/Sapphire remakes because this is more than likely going to be for 3DS titles. For starting on a new handheld, they'd probably just start a generation on it.
On the same note, however, we always have a pokemon or two from the new gen known before hand. Perhaps they'll break that trend now, or this reveal will be for some of the new pokemon.

Re: Game Freak promise to expand the Pokémon world next year As others have rightly pointed out in this day and age of ultra fast broadband and console internet connectivity I doubt future generations will be as black and white (sorry ;p) from each other as in the past. Downloadable content from the web on memory cards can boost total pokemon numbers add new regions to an already availble game and change the way we look at pokemon in general.
Anything new could quite easily start out as a R/S Generation V game and by the end of next year have a full roster of VI pokemon, extra regions plus an ingame casino with the tcg fully playable on it. You simply cannot the past cycle game orders into account given how things currently stand.
In the history of pokemon this might be the announcement that is most difficult to fully judge and the most exciting.

Gen IV we first got the titles, a LONG time before we ever saw Dialga or Palkia. With Gen V we got the titles in early April, with Zekrom and Reshiram being revealed in the last few days of May. This would certainly be something big if they did in fact do this....

Tuesday's gonna be nothing but a stellar display of the fandom being in an uproar of victory and merriment. Bring on the next games, gen 6 or otherwise!
Titles and the mascots with a vague fall 2013 if gen 6 or Grey Kyruem, summer 2013 and tears, lots and lots of tears.

Re: Game Freak promise to expand the Pokémon world next year For those who say it's a spin-off on the Wii U, I highly doubt it coming to that. They have had the Nintendo 3DS Development Kit for three years now and the Wii U hasn't even been out for six months, plus it's the perfect timing to switch to the new handheld.
