Yeah I guess you're right see I didn't know which is why I put the question mark not sarcasm still think that somebody can get their hands on it like a sponcer or someone or archeologist or someone could capture and study Mewtwo. Like I said before not saying I'm right just saying my idea ain't shit

What I would like to see is the Mewtwo vs. Genesect battle reflecting the battle between Rocket and Plasma. Mewtwo was created by Rocket and Genesect was created by Plasma so it's a battle of genetic mutations.

You can watch the movie for that. Team Rocket didn't create Mewtwo in the games.

Mewtwo's probably going to end up in a kind of mentor role to Genesect? Mewtwo's done the whole experiment-gone-wrong-out-for-vengeance thing. He knows what's like to be exploited by a set of regional villains for evil deeds. They'll probably go off travelling together at the end of the movie.

This thread isn't about the movie, but rather about Mewtwo's possible role in X and Y. The movie might be foreshadowing that, but it is unlikely that the story details will be similar.

I've been thinking that the Pokémon Lab scientists may make a return, or rather be properly introduced, as part of the new villainous organization. We know that the research team went looking for the legendary birds in Cerulean Cave. What happened when they found Mewtwo instead? Did it kill them, or did they manage to escape? Was that the incident that led to the cave collapse between the first two generations, which was even referenced in HGSS? We don't know if Red encountered Mewtwo first, as the science team just left a E-mail message about the expedition plan:

There’s an e-mail message.

… … …

There are three legendary bird POKéMON.

They are ARTICUNO, ZAPDOS, and MOLTRES.

Their whereabouts are unknown.

We plan to explore the cavern close to CERULEAN.

Did Mewtwo want the research team gone by whatever means necessary? Was it responsible for the Cinnabar volcano eruption as an extreme measure of getting the lab destroyed? Mind you, no people were killed as a result of the eruption, but they did have to leave Cinnabar.

And what was the Berserk Gene all about? It could return in these games just as the Ragecandybar returned as a key item in HGSS and later as the original item in Black and White.

Hmm...I'm not sure whether or not Mewtwo's inclusion is as something like a "Goodbye to the old days", in regards to how XY are moving away from sprites (which we know Masuda is particularly fond of). Mewtwo, being the main legendary from the first games, obviously fitting the nostalgia role there.

It is also worth noting that no past legendaries have ever appeared in the primary pair of a new generation (however, considering how much Gen V mixed things up, who knows how much Gen VI will do that? Especially with the sheer number of legendaries we have now). Personally, I don't think GameFreak and TPC will want to distract players from the mythology relating to the new legendaries, so it could be possible that a special Mewtwo will be distributed in relation to the movie and will have a flag that will activate a possible Mew or back-story event in XY? That could be tied in to the plot of the XY games (if the story is indeed genetic related), by having a mention of how Mewtwo (and possibly Genesect) were inspirations for the new project.

It's possible, but I think that the shiny Genesect and a special Eevee will be distributed instead. Unlike Mewtwo, Eevee hasn't had a special distribution yet despite its heavy promotion, and it makes sense to have one of the two movie-related downloads be tied to the short.

Personally, I'd prefer if we just had 6 new legendaries: A new trio, Xerneas, Yveltal and their third. New Mythical Pokémon can be added as DLC later on.

I'm not sure why they would distribute a special Eevee though? I guess it could be cool as the ticket pre-order bonus - something that isn't essential for Pokédex completion, but is a nice addition (most likely with special moves - maybe even shiny, but a shiny one hasn't appeared in any promotional materials yet). I wouldn't be surprised if it did turn out to be Mewtwo though. Pretty confident that the shiny ExtremeSpeed Genesect will be the main promotion though.

That is true (especially considering the 1/8 gender ratio). It could go either way between Eevee and Mewtwo then.

I'm up for the idea of expanding Mewtwo's origins and role in the games, though I am not sure if that will occur. While Mewtwo has plenty of depth for a Pokemon, I think Game Freak would rather tell us about Xerneas and Yveltal in Pokemon X and Y, as those two are brand-new and we know pretty much nothing about them right now, whereas we already know a bit about Mewtwo and we've known about its existance for years now. On the other hand, Mewtwo was given a signature move this generation, so it doesn't seem out of the realm if they did something to keep Mewtwo in the spotlight a little longer...just not so much that it steals the show from Xerneas and Yveltal.

I think I'd cry if Mewtwo had a big role in X and Y. We haven't seen it for so long and it's so nostalgic, and it certainly fits with the genetics theme.
