Normal type Opossum with its evolution being Normal/Ghost. It's Normal and Ghost because Opossums are known for playing dead. Could be the generic Normal type at the beginning of the region.

Also, that reminds me of something: I think it's likely that gen 6 will bring new evolutions/baby Pokemon for a few from gen 5-- but is there any chance of new evos/pre-evos for gen 1-4 Pokemon?

I've often wondered about a symbiotic evolutionary line. Almost like slowpoke, but with an inorganic object.
For example, a normal type that forms a bond with a steel type. The result could be along the lines of a part-organic, part-mechanical pokemon.
A ghost that has chains hanging from him. Ghost/Steel.
