Just face it, there are certain Pokemon that are doomed to be in the NU tier and was never meant to see the light of competitive battling. All Pokemon that were meant to have expanded evolutions were probably all revealed by Generation IV. And the fact that BW was meant to be a "fresh new start" makes me think further that not even Pokemon from Generations III and IV will see expanded evolution lines. If GF had more ideas, then they would have revealed them in Generation V. Okay, maybe one or two good ideas pop up occasionally and there's small amounts of regrets for not thinking the idea earlier but I doubt a few ideas is enough to restart a trend that already ended. When GF announced that BW will be a new start, that probably meant that they couldn't think of any more ideas for earlier generation Pokemon and so they planned on stopping.
You do remember that Generation III didn't introduce a single evolution for the first two generations, and yet Generation IV went on to introduce as many as 17 of them, right? So far only the even numbered generations have introduced new evolutions, so the fact that Generation V was a fresh start doesn't really indicate anything about the upcoming generation.

The fact that the Eevee promotion will continue this year in the midst of the new generation hype speaks volumes. I'd be very surprised if a new Eeveelution weren't introduced in the upcoming Eevee short, and as you may recall, Eevee is a Generation I species.

But I feel that GF purposely left out possible evolutions for Generation V Pokemon in order to give more space for expanded evolutions in Generation VI. Like someone here already said, I feel like Generation VI will mimic Generation II when it comes to giving certain Pokemon more grace.
Generation III was represented the least in the following generation, so in theory the same thing could happen with Generation V in this generation. Only a few Generation V critters need to evolve.

oh and an even weaker pre evo of magikarp
I fear to think how they could make something more useless then magikarp.

Going off Silktree's arguments new evolutions seem to be introduced a while after the Pokemon who receive these evolutions have been around for a while. The Gen II expansion is different though since just about all of them where originally intended for the first Gen but had to be taken out. Granted this only leaves us with Gen IV but following this logic it would seem that Gamefreak may give a Pokemon an evolution in a later generation when they believe it is in need for a change or they want to expand on its design. Whether this change is related to the metagame or not would be a point of contention for many though. And Gen V could also be used as an argument in this discussion of the metagame with the introductions of new abilities through the DW. Getting back on topic new evolutions are all up to Gamefreak's current thoughts on Pokemon of older generations and how they fare in design, probably.

@Hurricane Kishore I hope you don't expect Game Freak to cater to the anime. Ash has plenty of other Pokémon that can evolve regardless of what happens in the next generation.

We don't know that. Several Pokémon were scrapped from Red and Green, but we don't know how many of them ended up in Gold and Silver. At the very least, the alternate evolutions and pre-evolutions had probably not been created before Generation II.

I'd like to see a pre-evolution of Vulpix. One with a single white-colored tail, just like the Pokedex describes it. It'll never happen, but hey, I can always dream.

    *cough* Wynaut, *cough* Azurill

Well I think GF had a different mindset when they introduced Generations III and V as new starts. Before Generation III, succeeding Generations (okay it should be singular) were direct sequels to the previous games. Heck, you could explore previous regions and battle the playable character from before. Generation III was in a region completely unrelated to Kanto and Johto and there were very few references to the past (and in the future we learn that it's because the previous generations weren't the past to III, they were present and future). There is no exploring previous regions and no battling previous characters. That's probably why GF called Gen III a new start. It still had old Pokemon during the main playthrough. But I guess GF ditched the new start idea for Generation V as well. But I still see the possibilities for new evolutions for Pokemon preceding Gen V at a minimum.

    I normally don't like fake evos...but wow, that's awesome.

Also, there needs to be a baby pokemon for Kangaskhan stat. Seriously, all they need to do is take the little purple one out of the pouch and make it it's own pokemon.

I say instead of evo's and pre vo's, GF should just focus on creating new Pokemon, but use older ones as inspiration. Examples more owls ( we only have two), a kangaroo family ( Kangaskhan doesn't count). In the Pokemon world not every Pokemon has to evolve or have baby forms.

They should have done that back in generation II

I would really rather to see some alternate evolutions of already existing fully grown Pokemon (there are so many ways to give a second youth for our long favourites, like Princess-Pokemon which will kissed Poliwhirl turn into, or a Swan for an ugly Psyduckling) than an uber armored three headed Ratticate, or cute bouncy Scyther-baby.

And, unlike many, I hope Farfetch'd will never, EVER, get an evolution. The whole point of Farfetch'd is to be weak - you know, the whole proverb it is based on - and there's no point in making a second stage as weak as the first one. Right?

If they make an evolution for Derp I mean Stunfisk, I hope it looks like this:

Evos for: Dunsparce, Stunfisk, Swoobat, Noctowl, Castform, Torkoal, Mantine, Skarmory, Eevee (Flying and Steel evos, preferably), Ariados, Ledian, Jynx, Xatu, Banette, Mawile, Sableye, Donphan, Lanturn, Audino, Wobbuffet, Emolga, Cinccino, Chatot, and Druddigon.

Prevos for: Torkoal, Skarmory, one that evolves into either Tauros or Miltank (gender-dependent), one that evolves into either Volbeat or Illumise (gender-dependent), Druddigon, Kangaskhan, Lapras, Absol, and Snover.

I think I put WAY too many for all of these to happen, but hopefully at least one happens (mainly the Lapras and Absol prevos; those would be the most adorable Pokemon in existence!)
What you see isn't always what you get.

I want to see a Dragon-type Eeveelution, and I'd like to see Farfetch'd finally have an evolution. Mmmm... Maybe a Lapras pre-evolution would be cool as well.
