Bah...forgot about Dragon Rage. ^^; Bayleef doesn't learn Sweet Scent on it's own tho. Check any guild book or PokéDex on the web.

Dragon Rage is actually a move that Charizard learns on it's own. There is one other TM move I foget to mention though in that when it was Charmander it used Skull Bash against Erika's Weepinbell.

The whole Fire Spin on Arcanine thing has always intrigued me, as well as the fact that Tentacool were shown using what could only be Arora Beam way back in Tentacool and Tentacruel (back before it was banned). They're both move that were only obtainable when GS came.

Another interesting thing to note is the Chinchou Misty was battling that didn't take any damage from the Mirror-Coated Spark Attack. In RS Chinchou has a Characteristic that allows it to not take damage from Electric Attacks, in fact it is healed by them! Coincidence?

It seems that the anime has contained hints about future games for a long time so I'll bet that come the third game (i.e Yellow, Crystal) Seviper will learn or be able to be bred Smokescreen since it has used it in the anime.

    Lightbulb Bulbasaur's TM moves...

Something else to add to the TM move debate:

I understand that Bulbasaur knows Whirlwind and Dig (both pretty unlikely for a grass-type, but there you go).

As far as I can tell, an animé Pokémon can learn any move that its' species can learn through natural levelling up, TMs, HMs and breeding in the games. There also does not seem to be a limit to the number of moves that a Pokémon knows. Pikachu, at various times, has used somewhere in the region of ten or more moves.

Yep, that's the theory that's used in the PASBL. (Pokemon Anime-Style Battling League.) Just think, if someone's training to be a wrestler, and learns a new move, he wouldn't automatically forget an old move would he? It makes sense.

Dragon Rage is actually a move that Charizard learns on it's own.
    Not in the Kanto era, but then again, it's not the game, and 'they' prolly knew about what would be in future games. But it somehow learned it when Team Rocket attacked it and Ash in Charizard Chills. One prob. In the ep, Dexter said it was using Rage, when it was clearly Dragon Rage. Btw, I noticed little goof ups like that. Jolteon was told to Thundershock, when it was easy to tell it was Zap Cannon, or when Umbreon was told to use Agility, when it was Quick Attack. Anyway, moving on. ^^;

Well, I think it is. It makes sense since electricity would just be absorbed by an electric type if the amount absorbed wasn't too much. Happened when Pikachu's Thunderbolt got sucked up by Rudy's Electabuzz.

I'd hope not. Some people do confuse the game with the show.

Well concerning Dig Oak said that in times of great need a Pokemon can sometimes use an ability it normally can't.

Bulbasaur can't learn Whirlwind in any game but in GSC it can be bred Razor Wind...

Another two I forgot...Charizard has also used Whirlwind before (I think it was in "Don't Touch that 'Dile" to blow away Weezing's Smokescreen), and Noctowl has used it too. Noctowl only learns it through breeding, and Ash didn't specifically say to use it, but it obviously did in the times when it blew Weezing's Smokescreen away.

Actually, I think that was just the result of Charizard flapping it's wings, like when it blew away Richie's Pikachu. They are big and strong enough to move air, seeing as it can fly.

Like Pikachu charging electicity through it's tail. Just using it's characteristics.

Wrong. In the episode I'm referring to, Ash specifically said when calling out Charizard, "Charizard, Whirlwind that Smokescreen away!"

Well hey, dubs aren't perfect. The original could've been "Blow it away." not "Use Whirlwind.". Even so, i'd like definant proof, like what it's suppose to be originally, not what the U.S. made it to be, if they made changes.

I'm contridicting myself because i'm using the U.S. version to gather info on attacks that aren't obvious, like Take Down, not ones that are visually obvious.

Well I guess it's not that big of a deal. It's just a move that we know Charizard can learn so it doesn't make much difference whether it was specifically ordered or not, even though it was, at least in the dub.

Well, now I know the facts behind this one. Pikachu is working on learning Iron Tail. As of the first time it attempts to use it in battle, it hasn't yet perfected it.

Well that makes it even more interesting. Did Ash initiate that or is Pikachu trying it on its own?

Initiated by Ash, thanks to a suggestion from someone who informed him that the next Gym was Rock-type. And there's some pretty intense training involved in learning the move.

That's cool! That's probably the closest we'll come to seeing a "TM" in the anime. They haven't really gone that route before, of specifically showing a trainer working with a Pokemon on learning a new move.
