I heard that "Massu" means straight or something like that. Oh, and scrap Sleekoon, it sounds too much like the apparently confirmed name for Karasairu - Silkcoon.

Right... they've announced more names. I edited the top post and put them in. Most of them suck.

Wurmple? Wurmple? And I thought Skitty was bad. But Wingull I like. Combusten...I can adapt to. Shroomish...expect a LOT of jokes. But I can't wait to hear Kinogassa and the rest of the starter's evo names confirmed. Wurmple? I don't think I can get used to that.

Thanks Trip....think this should be stickied and we should make it like the official new English name topic?

I've noticed a lot of people on TPM don't like Ralis - I think it's a good name. It probably will depend on how it's pronounced, though - I like 'Rah-liss'.
Combusken is pretty cool, and I like Seedot and Lotad. They could have done something more original for Wingull, but it's not too bad. Shroomish is ok.

Combusken is really screwed, if you ask me. It just sounds too... hodge-podge. Unsophisticated.

    Even FAUNTLEROY is better. -_-;

Meh, Ralis is cool. Rae-lis sounds like Raelian... hmmmmm, maybe its based on the Raelian "cult" Rah-lis is nice too...

I was just reading on psypoke.org that Mishiro Town is going to be called Littleroot Town in the English games. Since they gave no source for this news (along with the fact that they have the first page of the Pokedex for each starter. Not in a screenshot, but typed out) I was wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this. Maybe this should go in the simple questions thread, but I figured this thread would work just as well if not better.

as for the others, they're no worse than any other pokemon names from older ganes. I think they're ok.
Taillow sounds like "tallow," as in the edible jellied fat off a hog's arce.

I loved the name "Seel." (Though I don't remember what it was a combination of. I do know it sounded like "seal," in any case.) I dislike "Skitty" because - if it sounds like "shitty" then it must be!

I was more upset about Professor "Birch." Hoenn isn't quite like "Houen" since the Japanese vowel that is analgous to "e" is pronounced like "ay." Still, it isn't a far cry.

Birch, however, is a dumb name for a Pokemon Prof. The whole tradition is to have three lettered names that are after poisonous trees. I've never heard of poison birch, and birch is five letters. "Yew" would have been more appropiate.

Oak is hardly a poisonous tree, neither is Elm. The only poisonous one is maybe Ivy. No the tradition is just naming after trees, not necessarily poisonous ones.

Well, I haven't heard the name Littleroot before, but I can tell you some of the others from Nintendo Power:

    Kotoki Town - Oldale Town
    Kanazumi City - Rustboro City
Gym Leader Tsutsuji (Rock gym) - Leader Roxanne

Roxanne of the Rock Gym....that makes sense. But I wonder what the new theme is for the city names? You gave a couple...maybe they're based on "old" things?
