Thread: Anyone here in a polyamorous relationship?

I've had the inclination towards it, but I've never been in a position to try. Just curious to hear the experiences of people who have; how do you manage being committed to more then one person, how did you introduce a person to the current relationship, how is it working out for you, etc. I'd love to hear some stories~ o:

(Just to clarify, polyamory isn't the same as having a primary partner and then sleeping around, "swinging", or whatever. It also doesn't necessarily mean one male + many females. I'm basically talking about a group of more then two people who have a meaningful, committed relationship with each other.)

I am not, and I do not plan to be, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with them so long as the relationship is consensual, and everyone in the relationship is A-OK with it.

I've not been in one, but I'm also a bit interested in them, like the OP said.

I wish I was in one, but so far it's leaning towards polygamy. ;-;

Yeah, I can definitely understand that. This might be pretentious to say but I suspect it's like an orientation. I know a lot of people who flinch at the mere idea of having more then one significant other, and then a few who don't. Regardless of how many girlfriends/boyfriends they've gone through before.

I guess you would have to be super-good at communication, so that nobody feels like #2. And I get why that would be too much hassle for most people. (I mean, just look at the success rate of monogamous relationships alone...) You could say I don't expect one to fall into my lap, but I don't think it's "wrong", so I'm not closed to it.

I know I couldn't do it if I liked a certain person but my partner didn't, or vice versa. P: So there's a pretty good chance it won't matter anyhow.

Some more thoughts on the "orientation" bit, probably I misspoke.

The way I see it, it's sorta like wanting to have a baby. I personally can't understand why anybody would want to have one because they are smelly and noisy and we have like a bazillion of them. I mean I guess they are pretty cute, but it'd feel like an enormous waste of my time and energy.

Yet, despite that, a lot of people obviously take great joy in raising babies. Even though it's pretty much guaranteed that your child will hate you for certain years of its life, and even though it's a huge mental drain.

For me polyamory's a bit like that. Some people want to have five babies, some don't want to have any. Some people don't want to get married at all, some would be okay with multiple spouses. For me I just happen to fall under the latter category.

Which is fine. Personally I just accept that I can be in love with more than one person at a time. But if it wouldn't work out for them I wouldn't push it.

It's pretty disgusting.. (same thing goes for sleeping with multiple people when you're already with someone.)

I'd never be with someone else other than my boyfriend.. and if he ever thought about being with another girl OR GUY, i'd smack the shit out of him lol.

People saying you can be in love with more than one person is not true. If you mean just love then yeah. But actually IN love? Not at all.

I'm not religious at all. I don't even know what this has to do with religion? lol. But I believe if you want to be with someone, it should only be that ONE person.

Yeah, I'm not interested in this turning into a debate thread. But if you or anybody else wants to talk about it, feel free to PM me. (Or start a thread in Nicoleta's Bus, I guess.) For now I'll just say that people experience love in different ways, and it may seem inauthentic to you, but it doesn't to me.

But as people above have said, its just too stressful. I've tried the multiple lady shuffle before. It ended badly. Very badly. For everyone involved.
