    Default Behold my fish

    Pokemon: Magikarp
    Difficulty: Easiest 25+
A/N: Well I thought it'd be fun to try out an art capture so I went with something simple, though it turned into more of a headache then I thought since I decided to use the Paint program. Using that with a mouse was a nightmare, so never again! Next time I'll use good old pencil and paper.

Ugh, looking at it, I got the body shape all wrong. I'll need to work on that sometime

I am so freaking sorry I took so long to get to this. T^T

    Magikarp Sketch
    .:~*Effort and Detail*~:.

Good job, this looks like it took you at least maybe half an hour to try to get the curves and shapes right. Despite this only being for a Magikarp, just remember that next time you can do much better! :> Telling by the fact that this is only a rough sketch, I can tell you have quite a bit of potential if you just put your mind to it.

    .:~*Color and Shading*~:.
Non-applicable since it does not exist. I won't stress this too terribly since this is an "Easiest"-tier Pokemon, though, but just keep it in mind for next time. Next time what you want to do is, even if it's just a rough sketch like this...maybe give it a little depth! Use lighter values of gray to sketch out the shading; can be effective if it's done neatly and not too sloppily. I think next time if you use "good ol' pencil and paper," you'll be able to pull this off more effectively than if you were to here like this. :3

    .:~*Texture*~:.
Once again, non-applicable since it is just a plain black and white sketch with no added depth. Just keep the shading tip in mind for next time, and maybe if you're familiar enough with basic shading, try out some more advanced texturing next time...be it fur, scales, leaves, or the like. So many possibilities when it comes to texture; just remember to, like with shading, create the texture with the contour / shape /direction (especially) of the object.

    .:~*Creativity*~:.
Not much display of creativity here, but that's okay. Lots of people like to start out with trial runs like this, so I won't stress it too hard this time. Just make sure to think up maybe a background story, or even just a basic scenario to your piece next time. Maybe attempt at a background and some interesting indicators of what's going on in the picture. Get original! :D

    .:~*Anatomy and Proportions*~:.
The only problem here, like you said, is with it's ovular body. Otherwise, you got the majority of the curves and contours of some of the lines rather accurately, plus the proportions are mostly correct. Just...a nitpick: make Magikarp's eye(s) a LITTLE larger next time.

    .:~*Perspective*~:.
This is very basic, but I don't expect all too much out of a Pokemon that comes from the simplest tier in the entire freaking URPG. xD Just make sure to keep in mind how much of an impact the perspective of a piece can be. Trust me, it can turn an incredibly bland image into something pretty amazing.

    .:~*The Score*~:.
I'm sorry I didn't have walls of text of feedback to provide; I tried providing you with basic advice since this is a pretty mediocre Pokemon and a bit of a mediocre job. But hey, that's okay: like I said, almost everyone here starts out with some kind of trial run...some people get it the first time, others don't. Like I mentioned at the beginning, I see a lot of potential in you. I really do hope you continue to enter illustrations into the Art section of the URPG. :>

I'll give you a score of 27 seeing how it's better than minimum but not too outstanding. Congratulations, Magikarp is all yours!

    Alright! Magikarp was caught!

    Yay! Thanks so much Speed!

And no worries, I actually think you got to it pretty fast ^^

Good advise on the shading and background, I was actually thinking of doing that but after sitting there so long staring at a fish I thought "Fudge it". I will keep that in mind though for future projects, though admittedly, I stink at backgrounds XD

Thanks again for the grade, critic, and advice! Hopefully I'll be submitting more in the near future :)

    @Black_Cat320;
It's my pleasure! I love helping out other artists. :D

I would have gotten to it about a day after Morru's, but then a bunch of stuff happened. Like, yesterday I went through surgery to get my tonsils removed. So since I'm stuck here doing nothing today, I thought now would be a good time!

Just for the next one, try your attempt out at at least shading and we'll see how it goes from there. And don't worry, I'm honestly not used to drawing backgrounds or anything either...but art is about practice, trial-and-error, and a LOT of references! What you want to do is try to get an idea in your head--you can even browse DeviantART or similar sites for inspiration. I know it helps me out sometimes. Once you've got a basic concept, try sketching it out. For anything you're not sure how it should look, use multiple references and/or tutorials, then from there try to start with a clean slate and refine what you had in the concept sketch. ^^
