    ...how is the Chuang Yi translation somehow "not professional" or "not official"?

    The difference here is that one company does a relatively straight translation, with a couple mistakes along the way as a result of the translator not being overly familiar with the video games, while the other company get more facts straight, but change a bunch of stuff seemingly just because they feel like doing so.

    Oh yeah, and translating a joke properly is better than tossing in some completely nonsensical dialogue in its place for the sake of making sure the names of some extremely minor characters match up with some video game characters no one remembers the names of anyway. How can you even argue against that?
    So.

    You're quoting to give your opinion. You're like a Wiki; anyone can edit your thoughts.

    Anyways, you couldn't be in the target demographic. You're six years younger than me; you were nearly a baby back then. Three years younger than me would be 7 back then, the lower limit of the target demographic.

    That, coupled with the fact that you needed to quote to prove me wrong, means that you actually didn't see the movie back when the Pokemon craze was at its height or that you totally don't remember it if you did (you could have older siblings), and hence you don't understand the brilliant thing it was for its target demographic at the moment.

    ...obviously, the movie is bad for everyone right now, but we're all grownups, aren't we, honey?

    I'd say I second the opinion, but no. However, you're indeed far too intolerant with something you obviously have a choice. You can read Chuang Yi, pirated or not, or you could read Viz. Simple, really.

    Both translations are official, and which one prefers is a matter of opinion. And, with the internet, both are readily available - except Chaung Yi's costs more due to importing. That isn't Chaung or Viz Media's fault. Viz Media has to cater to a "less-liberal" (for lack of a better term) audience than Chaung Yi, and that's just the way it is.

    Altering names doesn't make something dumbed down. Provide examples of your claims, especially your claim that it's the worst insult to the franchise in 11 years.

    I was quoting because I can't speak Japanese, so I can't tell what the original was; however, the dialogue is bad enough in the English version that I didn't like the movie even before I found Dogasu's Backpack.

    The target demographic is 6-10.

    They changed Mewtwo into a stereotypical TAKEOVER TEH WURLDZ!!!11!111 villain, cut out most of the opening, rewrote the entire script (this isn't an exaggeration), and replaced the music with stuff that sounds worse than a cat screeching while banging random piano keys and hitting a large metal pot with a stick.

    Yo, if you like your awkward English then that's all you, good luck with that. I also never said Chuang Yi was either of those, as I was referring to the scanlations more than the CY adaption, but like I said if you like your awkward English, that's all you. I'll take Viz's adaption anyday seeing how aside from name changes they're translation is almost perfect.

    By the way, when in the flying hell did you see me defending the Nanyanen pun scene? I'm the one who brought up the fact that their non-attempt to translate that scene irked me -_-. But then again it ain't like one pun screws up the entire volume or general story so I could care less about it. Hope that helps.

    So what if it is? It was great for me and many other children that now cry as you do, because we realize it was bad.

    This is no kodomo, baby. The target demographic is 7 to 12. And, still, you'd have been too young back then. My point remains sustained.

    Did you know that when you were, I dunno, 4 or 5? You must have been a genius. I know that nowadays, and I don't care, because the movie was great back then and it had its intended purpose even though I know look back and cry in shame.

    That opening had nothing to do with the rest of the movie. It was dragged-out backstory for Fuji, who gets his fool self blown up two minutes in, after undergoing a massive personality change. Honestly, the film flows better without it. And Mewtwo's Japanese motive makes no sense. A creature of God? How does an artificially created being not only have a concept of God right after being born, but enough of one to pass judgement based on that on itself and the people who made it? It's illogical and irrational.

    Also, this is a mod telling you. If you're going to make claims about how Viz's Special release is the worst insult to the franchise since the first movie dub, you're going to have to back it up with facts.

    The target demographic is still too young to care about those things. Being in the target demographic when the movie was released, it was awesome. Even now as an 18 year old, the first movie is one of my favourites.

    Anyway...let's not side-track >>

    I didn't know that it had been better in the original version, but I did know that the script and music were horrible. It had always been my least favorite of the movies until I found out that it was originally good.

    Dr. Fuji's story makes more sense if you listen to the CD drama. Mewtwo had the concept of God because Aitwo told it to him when she first met him.

    * Using horrible puns for chapter titles
    * Changing Pokémon nicknames
    * Random slang
    * Ignoring puns rather than attempting to translate them (This makes me worry about the DP arc)
    * In the scene where Ash carries Misty out of Mt. Moon, they made her complain about him getting her dirty; the original had her think he was groping her.
    * Blue vs. Sabrina
    * Naming Lady Berlitz Platinum instead of Platina

    I didn't. I saw Ryu Shoji doing so. Probably should've quoted him or something, yeah.

    CY's English seems fine to me. What is this "awkward English" you're speaking of?
    So.

    I defended it? Don't remember doing so...apart from how Viz Media changing the names of the Sages to their game equivalents shows that they do their research on the franchise. Shame they couldn't patch the joke up, but it's one line in a 200-odd page book.

    Btw, for the people who were afraid of useless censorship, the scene with Gold and Bugsy is kept perfectly intact and so is the mention of death.
