But killing them shows that we're no different to them when it comes to violent tactics. We should try to treat the ones that are curable. Besides, if you read the later comments in this thread, you'll see there aren't any pedophiles involved in the article, just someone who accidentally view child porn.

Thank you. In fact, I'm going to make this a rule of this subforum. Running into a thread and mouthing off like you know everything about the subject is just rude.

Personally, if anyone was found guilty in the production of child porn, I'd sentence them to death by firing squad. Perhaps live on TV. I'd watch the hell out of that.

I don't know why people can't read articles before ranting.

This article is personally vital to me because I'm from New York and misreadings of the article seem to be causing an uproar.
Child porn is still illegal in NY, and will certainly always be. This news addresses a specific type of case where breaking the law was not intentional.

I don't think people should so casually advocate for the death sentence unless they're willing to pull the trigger, press the switch, or inject the drugs themselves, then look into the person's eyes as they die.

It's very easy to call for the death penalty, but I bet most of us would find it very difficult indeed to kill someone, no matter the justification. I'd be very hesitant to be around any one who thinks it'd be an easy thing to do.

That said, however, it should be pointed out that this article doesn't have anything to do with child pornography production.

Two wrongs do not make a right. If a bully steals your lunch money, does it make it right for you to break into their house and steal their TV? Usually criminals have some kind of mental instability, or are psychologically insane. The issue with our laws is: They're far too strict about what is considered "child abuse". In some states, a 16 year old girl, and an 18 year old boy can have consensual sex, but then the girl can decide to claim she didn't concede, and the boy will be filed as a registered sex offender (that actually nearly happened down here in my state; two girls and two boys ages 15 and 16 were hanging out and things got heated, then the girls tried to file the boys as child molesters despite their close age range, and it ALMOST passed.) Then if a mother takes a photograph of their toddler taking a bath, she could be filed as possessing "child pornography". New York is simply recognizing the difference between an accident, or a parent sharing memories, and a legitimate pedophile preying on children.

By looking into the person's eyes it would force us to see their humanity, which is exactly what most people who support the death penalty don't want. It's so much easier to objectify the criminal than acknowledge their humanity. You ask why should they be treated as human when they have committed such horrible crimes? Because showing compassion for another human is what makes us human. Showing indifference makes us no better than the criminals we seek to punish.

In China, it's not uncommon to see small children (usually babies) wearing clothes everywhere except their private parts (and buttocks). It's for potty training - children will just go potty anywhere, but they have to squat first. And the taking a picture of the children taking a bath thing, my parents did that too.

I think the reason those laws are so strict is because people may try to excuse child pronography or statutory rape as "oh, it's just a picture of my toddler!" or "Come on, we're close enough in age to know each other, and it was just a rough night that night." Good judgment is a hard thing to come by, especially when what exactly good judgment is is disputed by so many people, so laws have become as specific and strict as possible, in order to avoid ambiguity and controversy.

Thank you both for your replies. I often try to present the opposite viewpoint without sharing it myself; I often put words into quotes for that very reason.

I'm very surprised by this, but my husband said he isn't surprised at all. This just shows how corrupt our government is...this is why I can't stand the show "Toddlers and Tiara's" on TLC because it just gives pedophiles permission to do just that. Sure it's probably fun to dress little girls up but seriously...it's insane!
These people (pedophiles) are very sick, and I mean in an ill kind of way. They really need help and giving them permission to view these kind of pictures makes it all that much worse. Women are already exploiting themselves doing pornography; now we're going to exploit innocent children? What a messed up and cruel world we live in...

I guess we should tell clothing department stores to stop showing pictures of little girls wearing bathing suits in their catalogues too.
