Dominique Vianneyte Eloi reportedly pretended to be unable to speak English upon her arrest. A sword-wielding woman frightened a private school community when she entered the campus mosque Wednesday. Dominique Vianneyte Eloi, 47, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and disrupting a school function.
Law enforcement is still uncertain as to why she walked around Leadership Preparatory School – a private Islamic school in Orlando, Fla. – with the unsheathed weapon, according to deputy Ginette Rodriguez of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
“She didn’t cooperate with the questions that were being asked of her, so we really don’t know (why she was there),” Rodriguez told the Daily News.
The school’s security guard alerted the administration to call the police when he saw Eloi park in a handicapped space, cover her head with a black hoodie, draw what appeared to be a 2-foot long machete and enter the mosque.

“They have a machete walking around. There are children in this school. We need to get somebody here quick,” an employee said during his 911 call.
Eloi pretended to not understand English after she was detained, authorities said. She asked Officer Eduard Turso, “sprechen sie Deutsch? (do you speak German)” when he confronted her about the weapon, according to the arrest report.

Eloi's car, left, outside the school's mosque. The school security guard alerted the administration to call the police after seeing her park, cover her head with a hood and pull out what appeared to be a 2-foot machete.
But Eloi, who carried an Arizona driver’s license, was heard speaking fluent English later after she was taken to Orange County Jail, police said. Eloi’s lack of cooperation has prevented officers from taking her mugshot. One of the mosque leaders told authorities that Eloi had no known connection to the campus whatsoever.
“Nobody recognized her as being part of the community,” said Rodriguez. “We don’t think she had any ties at all.”

No one was injured. The incident is still under investigation, and no bond has been requested, according to the arrest affidavit. Thursday morning, the judge reset Eloi’s first appearance in court for the following day, but it is still uncertain whether she will be able to attend or if her conduct will require further delays, said Allen Moore, public information officer for Orange County Jail.
“When the case came before the judge this morning for first appearance, she was unable to attend first appearance because of behavior issues and being under close observation,” Moore told the Daily News
