Thread: IOC cuts wrestling from the 2020 Olympics

F1 is a completely different story! I was thinking about Nascar and like Motocross and such

NASCAR these days requires a high level of fitness and motocross, that's hard. I would love to see Surfing in the Olympics though, motorsport will never be there.

Surfing couldn't work just because they would need a HUGE wave pool or somewhere that you can surf at

Yeah but some lakes can work too like in the winter lake Michigan gets HUGE ways thats when surfers surf in Illinois but Surfing would be a summer event not winter

Brazil, it can work. 2020 is in either Istanbul (Dunno), Madrid (Possible beaches nearby) and Tokyo (No idea)

I mean if you can make fake snow, surely you can make a a giant stadium full of water that has wave (pipe dream)

I think it's time to mention that sailing is an Olympic sport.

The giant wave pool could work but it could cost a lot of money and not be worth it if its JUST for surfing a lot of the building they build for the olympics hold more than one sport or events

Yeah they do it far away but sailing, you don't like massive waves though. Some countries don't have beaches. It doesn't matter anyway.

My stepdad will be upset about this, he was a competitive wrestler in high school and college and always likes watching wrestling when it's on the Olympics.

What is their justification for removing wrestling in particular? At least when they got rid of baseball, it made sense because only a handful of countries play it (though it still made my baseball-loving heart a little sad).

It was decided by a secret ballot vote, so we can only speculate as to why IOC members would vote for its removal.

That's frustrating. It seems like such an odd one to remove, and I can think of a lot of other sports that make more sense to eliminate.
