Default Friction between China and Vietnam

South China Sea tensions rise after collision

Don't think China will care much into the Vietnamese concerns. This also comes after the Philippine government seized a Chinese fishing boat recently.

They won't. The behaviour of the Chinese government with regards to foreign policy matters has been getting progressively worse as their confidence on the world stage gets stronger. China has territorial issues with most of its neighbours. They're limited in what they can do to a powerful country like Japan (with a strong defence treaty with the US), but the same cannot be said for Vietnam. Luckily for Vietnam, the US will be boosting its military presence in the area.

China has been known for getting increasingly more aggressive in recent years, and the reason is because they have one of the fastest growing economies in the world, as well as the largest military, and with these facts, China seems to be trying it's hardest to boast it's powerful position in the world. Very few countries are allied with China, mainly because it's aggressive territorial claims have annoyed it's neighbors, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, and especially Taiwan.

China has been like that throughout history though. They really don't have much of a foreign policy to their neighbours compared to trading partners. I mean China has been in 'conflict' with Japan, Korea and surrounding areas pretty much for the most of the 20th century, so it is not a surprise that they took this approach yet again. However the Chinese Government doesn't have any sort of transparency so we could only assume.

True, but it's been trying to project an image of a peaceful, non-threatening nation since WW2. This has given it economic advantages in the form of better economic cooperation. I guess they just no longer need to put on a show. :P

Here's a map that illustrates all (or most) what there's to say about this absurdity:

The blue line is based on international maritime law, more or less stating that each nation has an "exclusive economic zone" spanning as far as 200 miles from their borders.
