I've heard that his son, Kim Jong-nam, isn't good at ruling countries, maybe there will be a government reform under his rule hopefully?

His successor is supposed to be Kim Jong-Un, but nothing's been said yet.

    ........Wow.

What will happen to them now?

Chang Sung-taek is supposed to act as regent for now, apparently.

Considering he has never ruled a country before, assessing that statement is somewhat difficult.

Looks like World War III really isn't going to happen, thank goodness. Though I wonder what will become of North Korea next year.

Very likely to be the same as when Il-sung died: several days of hysterical national mourning followed by deification of him as another "eternal president", followed by Jong-un taking the reins of the world's largest cult compound.

I have always been fascinated by North Korea's antics, so I have my popcorn at the ready...

His son is crazier than his father. To be honest, with my step-sister living in Seoul, South Korea, I am kinda afraid that his son will start something that his father wouldn't.

    Rest in Peace.

And nothing of value was lost...

Funny that in the video game Homefront, it is said that Kim Jong Il died in 2012, and guess what happened just now, it's December 2011, and he is dead (although Homefront says he died in July 2012), a coincidence perhaps?

It's possible that the Koreas may reunite, though the chance it will happen in 2012 or 2013 is very slim currently, although with some help from the United Nations (of which South Korea is a part of), it might happen, unfortunatly, Kim Jong Un is, from what I heard, WORSE than his father, and might declare World War III (if Al Qaeda doesn't do it first).

You mean like declare World War III? My parents keep saying that World War III will occur in the Middle East between the United Nations and Al Qaeda, with the Koreas staying neutral, a war might happen between the two Koreas or between North Korea and China (or North Korea vs. South Korea vs. China), but if any other country gets involved (ESPECIALLY the United States, since the US military has the nasty habit of jumping into wars that don't involve them at all, as this is EXACTLY what happened in Vietnam, and look what happened there), and given that the United States already has their hands full with Al Qaeda in the Middle East, THEN it might be World War III

Worst case scenario is if North Korea and Al Queda team up, like Nazi Germany and Japan did in World War II...

Call me crazy, but even the entire Middle East, working together, would have a hell of a time getting through an allied assault by just the English and American troops.

Even though the Middle East is a pretty big area, a small group like Al Qaeda would have a difficult time training all their new recruits. In a war, strategy matters. It's no longer "bomb everything and hope you kill 'em all". And the amount of people would be limited, because Al Qaeda does things old school culture, and therefore women would not be allowed to join in (thereby significantly cutting the amount of people that could fight). There's also the issue of lack of unity between Arabs of different countries, which is a bigger issue than you might think. In Jordan, the "pure" Jordanians hate the Palestinians, and will sometimes go after them in fights and violent displays, while the Jordanian police stand around doing nothing. If you can't even tolerate people of your own race on day-to-day basis, how do you expect to work with them efficiently in a war?

The North Koreans may be brainwashed into a fatal loyalty, but the country is plagued with starvation and money issues. And although the fatal loyalty is shared by the fanatic people in the Middle East, they also share a similar issue in money and resources.

War is ridiculously expensive, and I highly doubt North Korea and Al-Qaeda could afford a sustained war effort against the United States and England. Imagine if other countries decided to join in, the war would be over before it began.

Those are my views, anyway. Feel free to correct me if I'm horribly wrong :o

Al Quaeda can't fight a world war, that's quite the hyperbole. Sure, they could probably do a lot of bad things, but what you're comparing here is two (at the time) rather massive forces teaming up with a small organization and a crazy country. I really doubt that China would support North Korea if they attacked first. Nor do I see why they would want to team up with North Korea even to begin with, I don't think their goals are similar (except perhaps their hatred against the west).

What is it with people and thinking Al Quaeda is capable of war? Are you thinking Taliban, because they're tow very different things with different goals (although they might seem the same, Taliban obviously wants control over Afghanistan, whereas you don't see Al Quaeda charging up for real regional control). They don't have the resources nor the manpower, nor can they mobilize enough support. Guerilla war perhaps, but that's hardly how you fight a world war, now is it? More like a regional conflict.

A bit back on topic, this could very well affect stability in the region. Certainly not needed. Let's wait and see.
