... 77 murders and 240 attempted.
All while he's sane?
Wouldn't that be a death sentence?
In the countries that still use that. Lot sof countries have decided that killing people, even murderers, wasn't something states should do.
Declaring him sane is a mistake. The sentence punishes his actions, but saying he is sane gives his manifesto credibility. That legitimacy would not exist if it was decided his writings were the work of a nutter. Calling him sane means he was in the right state of mind when he wrote this and acted on it. Now watch racist, bigoted nutjobs from all over seize his manifesto as a legitimate defence against foreigners.
Do you think that? Because quite frankly, I would rather think it's not taking this ideology seriously. There's a pretty big group of people who have similar thoughts, I don't think declaring him insane would really help take the problem seriously to be honest. Besides, I don't really think they needed the manifesto to find reasons to support their ideology.
That's just my thoughts though, there was a massive debate when two conflicting psychological examinations came with different results. I'm no expert, so I can't really say which one was better, but there was pretty sharp criticism against the first (the one would found him insane).
Unrelated to that, my neighbor got visited by a friend, and after talking to her, it turns out she was a survivor. It's a small country. Not like I asked her anymore about it though, not the best conversation starter.
