The only way you can tell how many mafiosi are in the game is if you are a mafioso yourself. Mijzelffan, because you lied about your role, I'm mostly suspicious of you.
If there were 5 mafia from the start, then it would've been 14 : 5, making the mafia a little overpowered in numbers.
So there should be only two mafias left at this point to make it 15 : 4, which is near 4 : 1 - balanced ratio.

LYLO is not always preferable over MYLO for myriad reasons I don't have time to delve into at the moment (getting ready to leave for work) but as a general rule: I don't trust an Independent anywhere near LYLO.
Why? Because they will often vote alongside the Mafia, giving them the extra vote they need to nab the win.
Even if there are two scum left instead of three, all of the above still applies. We are still on the road to MYLO and the next lynch is still crucial.

I would also like to point out that the Town's win condition is to "eliminate all threats", while the Mafia's is to "Outnumber the Federation". I bet the Town has to kill the Independent too to win.
