Announcing that I failed a reaction test for not giving a reaction that you know I wouldn't genuinely give, however, I do find suspicious.

You are a Soviet cosmonaut, famous for being the first person to perform a space walk.

You served in the Soviet Air Force, and in 1960 you were one of 20 pilots selected for the Soviet Space Program. You were scheduled to be the first human to perform a spacewalk on the Vostok 11 mission, but that was canceled and your flight was rescheduled to the next generation Voskhod capsule. For your mission, you underwent intensive weightlessness training. Up until your flight, all cosmonauts had been strapped in to their seats in the capsule for the duration of their flight, so the effects of weightlessness could not fully take effect.

On March 18 1965, you were launched into space in the Voskhod 2 capsule. You exited the spacecraft through a fabric airlock, connected to the spacecraft by a 5.35 meter tether. During your 12 minutes 9 seconds of EVA, your space suit inflated in the vacuum of space, preventing you from reentering the airlock. You had to bleed some pressure from the suit into space in order to get back in your Voskhod capsule for reentry.

You were later chosen for a circumlunar Soyuz flight scheduled for 1968 which would be a precursor to a Soviet moon landing, but unmanned test flight failures and the success of Apollo 8 led to this flight being canceled.

After the space race: Leonov was chosen to command the soviet half of the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission. This historic flight was the first joint mission between the Soviet Union and the United States, in which the Soyuz capsule docked with the Apollo capsule. From 1976 to 1982, he became the commander of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. He retired in 1991, and is still alive to this day at 78 years old.

Now that both sides had sent a human into orbit, it was time to kick it up a notch. On May 25 1961, American president John F. Kennedy promised in a famous speech to achieve the goal of "landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth" before 1970. This put a lot of pressure on NASA to produce results quickly. There are many complications that need to be worked out with landing a person on the moon, and these were partially worked out with the introduction of Project Gemini.

The Gemini capsule was designed to test several things. It would send a crew of more than one into space, it allowed a crew member to perform a space walk, and it tested space docking capabilities which would be necessary for the future moon landing program. The first manned flight of the Gemini program was on March 23 1965, and the first space walk in the Gemini program launched on June 3, 1965.

However, the Soviets had already beaten them to both of these accomplishments. For their second generation space craft, the Voskhod, they basically stripped down the Vostok space craft and made it fit three people. In order to do this, they removed many safety features which were taking up a lot of space, such as the launch escape system and space suits. Using this, they were able to launch the first manned Voskhod mission with a crew of three cosmonauts on October 13, 1964. Korolev made sure that the cosmonauts were aware of the risks, and they agreed to do it anyway.

The first Soviet space walk took place on March 18, 1965. The Soviet method for getting a cosmonaut outside the spacecraft was a bit more sophisticated than the Americans'. For the Gemini space walk, the entire capsule was depressurized and the hatch was opened, allowing the tethered astronaut to go outside. For the Voskhod space walk, they actually set up a fabric airlock which the cosmonaut would climb into before performing his space walk so that the spacecraft itself could remain pressurized.

The first cosmonaut to perform a space walk was Alexei Leonov. He got out smoothly enough, but once he was outside, disaster struck. A failure in his space suit caused it to balloon up, restricting his movement. Untested thermal protection caused his suit to heat up uncomfortably in the unshielded sunlight. As his ballooning suit filled with sweat, he made one final gambit: he bled off some of his air in order to reduce the suit's pressure. As his suit shrunk to a more normal size, he made his final mistake, he tried to go into the airlock feet first when it was designed to be entered head first. He got stuck when he tried to get back inside, so he had to go out and try to come back in. Unfortunately it was too late, the spacecraft was ready to re-enter the atmosphere. With his air running out and his suit beginning to balloon again, he had no choice but to disconnect his tether and crack the cyanide capsule behind his teeth.

Sergei Korolev's health had been unstable ever since his time in the Kolyma gulag. In 1960 he suffered his first heart attack, and it was discovered that he was also suffering from a kidney disorder. The exact circumstances of his death remain uncertain. He died nine days after a routine surgery on January 14 1966 of what turned out to be a large cancerous tumor in his abdomen.

During your education, you had a great interest in aeronautics and the idea of space travel. You spent the early years of your career working at the Group for the Study of Reactive Motion (GIRD), where you worked primarily on liquid fueled rocket motors.

In 1938, like many scientists and engineers of the time, you became a victim of the Great Purge and were imprisoned in a gulag. After a year in Kolyma, East Siberia, you were sent to a prison in Moscow where you were still a prisoner, but allowed to work as a rocket scientist.

After World War 2, you were commissioned to the Red Army with the rank of colonel. You traveled to Germany to recover German V-2 rocket technology, which would eventually be the basis of the Soviet R-1 rocket. In 1947, you became chief design engineer at the new OKB-1 special design bureau, which was created for the purpose of designing medium range and intercontinental ballistic missiles. Your design bureau's work culminated with the August 1957 launch of the R-7 Semyorka rocket, the world's first intercontinental ballistic missile.

Less than two months after its first successful launch, Sputnik 1 was loaded as a payload on the R-7 and was successfully launched into orbit on October 4, 1957. Although you had been commissioned by the Communists to build an ICBM, your original goal with the R-7 had always been to enable space travel.

Over the course of your career, you oversaw almost every major project the Soviet Space Program produced, including the Vostok (first human into space), the Voskhod (first vehicle in space with a crew of more than one, and first space walk), the Soyuz, as well as the first unmanned missions to the moon, Venus and Mars. Versions of the R-7 rocket are still used to this day to launch the Soyuz spacecraft into orbit.

During your time as head of OKB-1, you were known as a very tough leader, but you would always take your workers' opinions into consideration and would defend them or recommend them for distinction. Therefore you may protect one player of your choice each night. Even Korolev couldn't save himself from the Gulag, so you may not protect yourself. PM the host with “Protect: Player” during a night phase in order to use your ability.
