Not a hard rule for every mafia game; Havendale is an original story/place by Zenax, so nameclaiming and such wouldn't completely screw over the mafia since nobody except Zenax knows who the actual characters are.

Also, role is different from name, you can claim to be the cop, but in a zelda themed mafia, you can't claim Link.

There's also a difference between downright revealing your role PM or just revealing your role. For example, posting this in thread in Supernatural Mafia would have gotten you modkilled:

But saying "I'm Dean Winchester and I'm a mason." wouldn't since both name claiming and role claiming were allowed.

When I was new, I didn't understand what was acceptable to claim and what wasn't. My first few games I was so afraid I would slip up and be modkilled. xD

When I was new, I was used to playing mafia on a quick simulator that was VERY different and was run by a bot, so I was very confused xD

My first game, I got lynched Day 1 for not understanding what someone was doing and asking about that game mechanic. People thought I was needling for information.
