Yeah, highway driving is fun. I'm generally more calm on the highway than I am on regular roads - mostly everyone is going the same speed in the same direction.

That and there are no red lights. I hate red lights.

I think the term you're looking for is "freeway."

We don't have freeways on the east coast. I've never driven on one.

Where I live highway, freeway, and expressway all pretty much mean the same thing.

Searching "freeway" on wikipedia redirects to "controlled-access highway." Therefore your attempts to make me look stupid have now been put to death.

They're the same thing apparently. And highway is a more general term I think, which includes freeways.

Except that the only controlled access highways around here are toll roads, and are therefore not freeways.

Freeway: This is a divided major roadway with full control of access and with no crossings at grade. This definition applies to toll as well as tollfree roads.

There are no freeways around here. End of story.
