New Bark Town was a peaceful place for the residents. Everyday was quiet and the townspeople were happy with their lives.

However...a busy bustle caused an uproar.

It happened all of a sudden when a girl and a boy were getting ready to receive their first pokemons to go on a journey.

None of them expected a third kid to appear. In a blink of an eye, the three pokeballs on the desk were scattered on the floor, the third child picking one up before jumping out the window.

"He stole a pokemon from the lab! After him!" a young professor screamed.

A blur of red was there - and then he disappeared into the forest. The aides dived into the tall grass, and the girl kicked the tree which the thief climbed to escape the pursuers - causing several berries to drop.

"Get back here!" she yelled angrily. Her and her friend were about to follow the aides when the professor caught them.

"It's too dangerous to go into the tall grass by yourselves!" He scolded.

"But what about the thief?" the boy asked anxiously.

"The aides will deal with him - and we'll tell the police about it. In the meantime... let's get back to where we were." Sighing, he presented the remaining two pokeballs to the kids.

"Unfortunately, there isn't much of a choice now."

The boy looked at the two pokeballs briefly before taking one without hesitation.

"This one looks all fired up to get back his friend. I'm taking Cyndaquil!"

"Hey! No fair!" The girl said. However, she took the other pokeball without complaint. "Chikorita also wants her friend back! I bet she can take down that thief with no trouble at all."

"No fighting, kids!" the professor said. The children glared at each other before paying attention to the prof.

"Now, before you get all giddy to catch the thief that took Totodile - there's something you must do. Professor Oak is in Johto for business, and I told him about you two. He said he'd be delighted to give you the Pokedex when you visit him."

"Wow! Professor Oak?" the girl immediately showed interest while the boy just yawned.

"He's staying near Cherrygrove City for now, so off you go."

"But what about the thief - ?" the boy started, but was interrupted.

"FORGET THE THIEF AND GO VISIT PROFESSOR OAK!"

Sticking out his tongue, the boy got on his skateboard and headed off down the route.

"Hey, wait for me!" the girl yelled as she ran after him with surprising speed.
