How did you mess up your character? Your role PM has a picture, and (at least for me) the picture matched up with the wiki page. So even if you messed up the name, you would have known the weapon. That is listed in the role PM.

I tend to get the twp people mixed up, they both are users of staffs that get light( Or a different kind of magic, but in my game I picked light) When they promote. I was an idiot and thought I knew who my person was with out checking my role PM.

There are two characters who can use exclusively swords, have a light affinity and are from Renais. Both are good guys.

The battle picked up again around evening, becoming vicious and bloody as darkness fell. A wise yet young soldier flew high above by the light of the moon, spearing enemy troops like fish in a barrel. The enemy managed to surround him, though, and cut his wyvern's throat before throwing him to the ground. He was finished in much the same manner after a short struggle.

You are a wyvern Knight of Grado, and Glen's younger brother. You look up to your brother, an Imperial General, and follow in his footsteps to a degree. When General Valter killed your brother (and brought back his corpse for you), he lied and claimed Princess Eirika did it. You set out to find her and avenge Glen. However, you discover that she knows nothing of Glen's death. You end up defecting from Grado to take revenge on Valter for your brother's death.
