"What? What did you say?"
The Emperor sat on his throne, glaring down at his informant behind his face-concealing mask. He had been alerted just after his evening meal that one of his secret police had news for him. It was not of the kind he liked.
The informant bowed low. "My lord, I have overheard two Falconwings in town. From what I can tell, they are not of the Rosefire clan."
The Emperor leaned back on his throne and pondered for a moment. Falconwings were not uncommon in this region, but almost all belonged to the trusted Rosefire clan. He knew they were loyal to him and his cause. Anyone else was a wild card. "You. What do you think the chance is that these are hired assassins from Lyondra?"
The informant paused for a moment to carefully consider his answer. "I would say... it's an even split. They may just be freefliers but it is not beneath Lyondra to use underhanded tactics such as this, especially since their army and government are in shambles."
The Emperor nodded. "Yes. I see. I have a task for you and your men. Seek out these Falconwings and exterminate them. I shall take no chances. Go. Now."
And with a deep bow, the informant vanished into the shadows.
