The old Captain looked upon Kaname Tōsen, who was simply sitting in a meditative pose.

'You cannot stop us,' Tōsen told his former commander. 'Soon, we will achieve victory, and the world will be better.'

'Unbelievable...' The Captain Commander just shook his head. 'You were such a gifted shinigami, it's so sad that it must end this way.'

'What makes you think that this is over?' He lowered his head and quietly said, 'Ban-kai.'

A large dark sphere suddenly appeared and surrounded Tōsen.

'You think you can hide in there?' the Captain Commander said. 'How sad...'

With that, he raised his Zanpakutō.

'Ennetsu Jigoku.'

Pillars of intense flames surrounded the dark sphere, and after a few minutes, there was nothing left but the charred remains of the former Captain.

Yeah, knowing that Sputnik was mafia, it's very possible that Rio could be a godfather or something, and they were trying to get her cleared or something.

Not really because mafia would have no reason to silence someone getting lynched being it could clear them
