Besides, some people hunt for food. And due to fucked up amount of predators, hunting might be required to keep populations in check so they don't fuck up the rest of the environment with their natural enemies gone.
But yes, some people do hunt for pleasure (but I disagree that all hunting is for pleasure). That is not equal to saying humans kills for pleasure.
I don't let my cat out at night because he has no claws. He can go out during the day though because he stays close.
I dont let my cat out because I live near a road, and although she is scared of a lot of things, I can't trust she'll be safe outside. Although my mother seems to be convinced otherwise.
I don't know if he kills anything outside (probably but he doesn't bring it home), but two mice that he found inside met with a terrible fate.
The only people who hunt for pure pleasure or to show off are the rich bigots who think "hunting" is breeding deer/fowl/hogs on their personal fenced property and having designated feeding areas where there's a 100% chance of the stock animals showing up. Throw these guys in a real hunting situation and they have no clue what to do. Most of the stories you hear about irresponsible hunters are these idiots or people who see it on TV and think they can waltz into a forest then shoot something. Hunters who mean it actually take better care of forests and fields than the government appointed environmental services, and unless a species is rare for the area, hunting keeps animal population at an acceptable level so they don't starve themselves to death out of food competition.
tl;dr - Hunters don't have an obsession with killing like everybody seems to think.
I let my cat out when he wants, he hunts, I mean he'll sometimes bring home a half eaten mouse or pigeon or young child. He's a good wee cat, love him to bits :3

My cat is like 9 years old.
She hunts squirrels. It may be the most impressive thing I've ever seen.
