@Jolene; Why alcohol-free? They're not Baptists! One of the best things about Catholics is that they love their booze, inside the church and out! (At least, that's what I learned from the Polish side of my family.)

Hi, I'm Rose. I love music, alcohol, pointless Internet debates and being a snob about my choices in entertainment. I write a lot. You can read some of my writing at Autostraddle.com, the best site for LBTQ women on the Internet, where I am a staff writer. Or the funhouse that is my tumblr. I also write music sometimes, and post the better fruits of my labors on my SoundCloud.

They have never given out wine at communion at any Catholic church I've been to. The Lutheran church that I went to did however, and they also had really delicious home made bread. I always looked forward to communion there.

Really, the grape juice trend is spreading even to Catholics now? But they believe it turns into the blood of Christ! What's the big deal?

C'mon, the wine is pretty much the only way to get us non-believers to ever go to church.

They didn't even give out grape juice, it was just those cardboard-esque wafers.

Also re: homemade bread, one of my stepdad's old churches (he's a Presbyterian minister, for those who don't already know) made their own bread for the communion because one of the girls in the choir had celiac disease (and this was before gluten-free was the "hip new thing"). Their bread was some of the best bread I've ever tasted.

Okay, that's really weird, you're supposed to have both. Wine/grape juice is the blood of Christ and wafers/bread are the body.

We should have another gangsta rap battle sometime. I have more misogynist slurs to dish out at random.

Yep, I come from a long, proud line of crazy Polish drunks!

It's always made me wonder why Poland doesn't have the association with hard drinking that, say, Ireland has. Or if it's just my family.

Homemade bread is fab. I should try making some some time.

I know what the belief is (especially the Catholic version where the bread [cardboard wafer] and wine are supposed to be literally the body and blood of Christ), but they just didn't feed us any drink. I don't know what to tell ya sister.

Also we always got white wine at the Lutheran church, presumably so it didn't stain if someone spilled.

@TheMissingno.; I wasn't trying to suggest you didn't know, more that maybe that church didn't know?

Also I would totes go to a church that served white wine. OMG. What kind of white wine was it?

Okay I'm watching MPGiS again. The fact that Deandra's automail robotic arm makes this "whirring" sound whenever she moves it is just killing me. What is it about this show?

I dunno, I kind of doubt that they didn't know. The priest always drank. Also this was at several different churches, not just one. I think I'll just chalk it up to cheapness and leave it at that.

I dunno, I haven't been to that church in like 9 years.

Seriously, the fact that I made that association with her arm was just such a "You know you watch too much anime when..." moment.

The Lizzie McGuire line also made me laugh out loud.

I love white wine, though, furrealz. I'm really bummed that I'm broke and I'm going to have to make this bottle of moscato last.
