I say the dynamic was boring. Not extremely boring though. I vastly prefered the 4 member group dynamic of AG.

Its funny because when Barry was traveling with the DP trio for those few episodes, the group instantly got better.
Too bad Barry couldn't always stick around. :/
The group ALWAYS got better when you added characters to it.
Even Nozomi was a memorable addition to the core trio.
And that's not getting me started on how entertaining things were with Jun and the JohtoFesta duo.

Barry livened up the entire group. Even Dawn had good interactions with Barry in the few times they interacted.
Going back to a trio for DP, without characters that play off each other (like the BW trio), was a bad idea.
If they had to keep Brock, then DP should have been Ash/Dawn/Brock/Barry. That would have been much better.

It was good it not like BW's which made me angry. Ash and Dawn felt really close and Dawn actually served a purpose in the core battling episodes. There was no arguing but it's better then the faux deepness of Cilan vs Iris. If the had a better threat in the filler episodes to make up for the lack of tension in the group It would have been perfect as it could be.

The group had a dynamic?? MIND = BLOWN
That group was dead air on a plane. IT COULDN'T FLY.
The chemistry wasn't there all around as Brock and even Ash had to be shafted during Dawn's development and the fillers helped little. They should just Kai this gen!!
For the last time, BW is NOT a reboot.

They may not have been the best group but I wouldn't say they had the weakest chemistry either (I don't think a single group did). I guess you could say they just had a simple, generic friendship thing going on among them. And that's fine with me.
Dawn/Brock can be considered the weak link of the group -though it was really no worse than May/Brock- but I could still get the sense that they were friends and that Dawn learned a lot from Brock, such as when she remembered to use the right berries and where to find them from Brock to take care of her Mamoswine when she was on her own.

The Ash and Dawn friendship was fine, even if it really was just a slightly altered version of the Ash and May friendship with high fives thrown in. But two people alone do not make a group.
The DP trio ended almost a year and a half ago now and it feels like aside from comparison threads like this one it's all but forgotten. If the show ever ends someday, I don't see the DP trio being brought up as much as all the others.
Just the trio were okay - but I preferred it when Barry was with them. He made things much more lively
Dangerous Circus
The friendship with the DP group seemed weaker to me. The DP group was more of a competitive and serious level. BW seems more of a comedy, easy going type of thing. Hoenn was abit all over the place, while the Johto one was closer in time length.
Oddly enough, even though I sat down and watched all 191 episodes of DP, some multiple times even, I don't really have any nostalgia for the DP trio AT ALL. :/
While I did like some things Dawn herself did, the whole trio itself is like a massive blur to me now.
There really was very little memorable about it.
I think the group worked for what it was supposed to do: provide an ease to the tention provided by pretty much everything else within the show. Yes, they got along all fine all the time and there could have been more interactions between Hikari and Takeshi but overall it served it's purpose. With all the things we got in DP (Shinji, Hunter J, depression arcs,), I think that the group dynamic worked well enough.
That said, during the contest episodes, I think that a better group dynamic could have helped since Hikari's rivals were a bit pathetic. On the other hand, I wouldn't have liked anything to distract from Candy Musashi and better rivals would have been a better pay off.
