Hmmm.... Still....
Or maybe, he hit his head
Ah, maybe you can ask the director or the Pokemon Anime's Script writer ?
Ah, it's to complicated....
I haven't yet watched BW. Will think when I do :P
Ash character has been clearly reseted to start/middle kanto experience (but more calm).
-The fact he is 10.
-The battles errors: launch pokeball without weaken wild pokemon, or send disavantaged type (the capture error during AG/DP were justified in the script => dawn/max/may: ash, it's not you who said, you must weaken pokemon during a battle before capture it, Ash: sorry, it's excitement)
-The nurse joy error (normally, he knows since a long time that joy family have lot of twins who are nurse)
-His ignorance, (notably for romantic feeling) is over exagerated (ash spends as a completely immature kid), during his travel between kanto and sinnoh he has showed some maturity in pokemon feeling (episodes with departure of his butterfree or jessie dustox). Now he is completely ignorant, despite the multiples iris/cilan explanations, he thinks that the pokemons concerned have only friendly feelings until the end of episode (episodes with cottonee and oshawott/piplup rivality for meloetta).
-The absence of strategy and a training based only on his pokemon trust or basic knowledge (my strategy to beat elesa is winning with only Palpitoad)
Of course. He went from strategic and smart to his idiotic OS self.
"Reset"? wtf no. Just watch a few Kanto episodes. You'll see how much dumber he acts there.
It's just the inconsistent, goofy writing that Pokemon I DIDN'T WISH FOR THAT is known for.
Here's what happened:
In the original series: he was immature
Advanced: he grew up a little
diamond/pearl: he became immature a little
best wishes: out of the episodes i have seen him in- he is way to mature for his age
ergo, the need to completely remake the series just like they have done for scooby doo(and i hate the new scooby doo) but they need to actually succeed in making it awesome
Since Ash is basically a representation of the protagonists from the games, essentially he's supposed to be a 'newbie' trainer each region who learn and grows along his journey. That changed during AG and DP once May and Dawn were introduced as beginning trainers, but even though these two female protagonists from the games were brought into the anime, that didn't really change the fact that Ash still took the place of the male protagonist who would collect gym badges. The two girls had their own quest (Contests) and Ash had the main quest of the games.
So in a way, I do think that Ash has 'reset' but it's kind of like the equivalent of you starting a new Pokemon game. You know the basics because you've played the previous generation but you're starting fresh, and that's what Ash does every new generation.
I hope this makes sense, since it's kind of hard for me to explain. ^^'
Question. How was he immature in DP compared to how he was in AG and now? Please explain that because it's making little sense to me. I thought that in DP since it felt like he was becoming more mature that he was started to grow a little. That is until he got to Unova and they mentioned his age.
It's like Best Wishes is trying to make up for his lengthy doldrums of no character development thru Gen 3 - 4. He was really ignorant in the first 20ish episodes (which was always confusing for me since he had all that pokemon merchandise in his room)
I dunno, it's like he channeled Chuck Norris when he wanted to save Brock and Misty from Sabrina... and then nothing.
I think he's pretty much the same as he's always been. Within the first few episodes of AG, he told May she had to weaken a Pokemon to catch it when she went after that Azuril, but forgot all about it when he tried to catch Treecko. His actions just move faster than his brain does sometimes, is all.
They seem to REALLY want Ash to derpy take for the Snivy and Emolga double attract. Both pokemon use attract neither work because they are both female and everyone is like oh my god Ash is so forgetful WHEN ELESA DID THE EXACT SAME THING. Maybe the writer meant he didn't figure out want happened but they could had the Double attract thing without the Ash derp.
You know what I think. I think Team Plasma has somehow altered time and space messing with the time line between the end of DP and start of BW. It will all probably be revealed near the end of the saga when Ash suddenly gets it together.
I hope I am not basing his character but he doesn't have much of a personality and that hasn't change since the 500 or more episodes this shows been on air. The constant reset don't help matters at all.
I've been watching the old Kanto episodes again, and he has really changed very little. Even in his allegedly-smarter Sinnoh days he's much the same. In this case, it's more along the lines of his companions and pokémon (and COTDs) that have had him acting more intelligently.
