On other hand Dawn and Misty threads are total mess with opinions varying a lot from person to person.

well think of it this way, misty was the first characther so it did had some flaws, and also her return in the AS altough it was entertaining it wasn't very memorable, on dawn side she did have some bad side from her pokemon and *don't need to worry* and sometimes for her personality, but the writers were very serious about giving there best into making us liking may's characther, and it did deliver at the end

Its amazing what a large rack will do to a girls popularity.

To be fair, every girl character had flaws in this show. It just happens to some people May had less flaws and inconsistencies in storytelling than other female protagonists did, while to some it didn't. It depends on personal interpretation really what you consider good writing or not, and personally i was satisfied with her treatment. As far as cameos goes in Misty regard ill just say how imo return in AG was quite memorable(especially release of Togetic being one of most emotional moments in show and bond with Max).

Now that i think about it, May was in reality testing ground to determine if contests will be well accepted in this show or not, and i can say writers succeeded in their aim with concept of coordinating being welcomed among fanbase.

I can say out of all main girls in this show May is my second favorite with her personality, pokemon and development making her good and balanced character.
I also think its real shame we never got any coverage on her quest in Johto and how she fared at GF, it definitely had potential to make nice story arc out of it.

Hopefully we will see her again, and i have feeling that day may come when RS remakes come out.

ladies and gentlemen, that's the reason why pokemon cronicles SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN CANCELLED, btw let me guess you're favorite female characther is misty right?
