Brock is a legend he was my role model growing up :)

really funny in season 1 that said he was more boring in johto i felt there werent enough "brock episodes" and he wasent really doing much of anything to progress his goals he also barley battled EVER in this saga and started catching less pokemon by then the "fall in love with girl x get dragged away by misty" was getting tiresome imo but he got better in hoenn found him funny again and he finally got some more things to say in filler episodes, glad they mixed up the ear drag thing. Brock caught some really awsome pokemon in hoenn which is one of the reasons why its my favourite sagas. Then of course he was horrible in DP but that was because the writers stopped giving him decent storys but its not enough to ruin the great memory i have of him he still makes me laugh watching back the older episodes :)

I liked his role...until AG/DP, where they rammed him into the ground. He had his moments, of course, but the writers just really weren't trying with him anymore.

Despite that, I still miss him being there...at least he's not being disgraced, though...

In this show, characters just eventually overstay their welcome. Brock's character ran out of steam about a third of the way through D/P, just like Team Rocket and arguably Ash and Pikachu ran out of steam in B/W. This is just an unavoidable problem. If Misty had stayed, for example, she would have gotten stale in AG/DP just the same.

That's not necessarily true, because you can keep characters equally interesting even if they stay for long periods of time, if new subplots are open about him, more of his personality is explored going in new dimensions to prevent viewer getting bored of him/her.
It all depends on writing and amount of creativity writers put into something if character will remain interesting or not. Which is highly subjective btw. Even if you become bored of some character if new life is added to his story being took in new directions he can become appealing again.
For instance Ash and TR are longest lived characters and i still find myself enjoying in them.

Many long lived anime don't even change cast keeping same characters for years, but they still manage to remain enjoyable with new twists added to their stories and unrevealed things about themselves and past recapturing viewers interest.

Main issue regarding Brock wasn't in his characterization so much, but more in passivity of his goals with there being little you can do with something, which isn't about battling and entering competitions. He was always mostly about taking care of pokemon and raising them to be in top shape, which was one of reasons why he didn't received as much focus as he should have received.

With more battle oriented quests writers have easier time in creating something for character, because it opens window of possibilities(like inclusion of rivals, competitions, training episodes etc).
Hence why its much easier to write for coordinators and trainers.
In all three series he was in he always got the least out of all main characters(exceptions being Max and Tracey).

When used right Brock was very good character , but passiveness of his plots hurt more than it helped.
That and i guess writers kept him too much in solidified role of older caretaker and cook of group which often overshadowed his other qualities, making people forget how he had more beneath that surface of his.

But i still find he functioned well until DP because in Hoenn Brock got possibly more focus on his breeding talent than in any other sagas. Ironically biggest role he played happened during Team Galactic arc when he was chosen by one of lake guardians Uxie to fight villains along with Croagunk which developed rivalry with Toxicroac.

At end of day personally i miss Brock appreciating everything good he brought to show, and i feel he deserved much more than what he got.
He maybe didn't had big role and huge arcs filled with lot of character development like some other characters did, but he brought to anime stability and balance fulfilling valuable tasks and bringing order in main cast acting like older brother/"voice of reason".

And because of that i have many found memories of him having several memorable moments during his long tenure in this show.
