I actually enjoyed Brock's role from the very start till his end! At the end of each series it felt more reassuring knowing that even though we wouldn't see Ash's female travelling companion again we would still have the familiar face in Brock! Even in DP he made me laugh a lot and I'm hesitant to watch BW because too much has changed for me since when I first watched the show as a kid (damn I'm old LOL).

There was so many different story angles they could of worked for him but instead they where lazy and chose not too, personally I felt like he was as much of a foundation of the show as Ash is!!

No its more that writers in Johto(to lesser extent),AG and DP treated more Brock as actual character focusing more on his breeding career, issues with dis functional family and storyline compared to OS where spotlight was more directed in helping Ash grow as trainer becoming stronger along with Misty.

And i think people already brought enough examples to support claim how Brock still sometimes helped Ash with strategies giving him tips, just not in same amount like he used to do in early days and i believe it was Brock which spent whole night with Ash helping him to prepare to battle Gary in Johto league, helped him to pick pokemon with Misty in match vs Macy, trained him when battling Torkoal etc. He also aside from taking care of group, navigated them to find gyms and towns where they were supposed to head to.

The problem is he got stuck with the same 3 Pokemon from early 2007 and his team remained the same for the next 3 years! Its like the writers didn't make an effort to make his team stand out more or go through development. He had more evolutions in AG (Lotad and Mudkip), then he did in DP.
He had several memorable pokemon in DP if you ask me. His Croagunk was absolutely hilarious being refreshing to see Brock dragged away from girls in different manner, compared to usual ear pulling, i liked his rivalry with Toxicroak, his battling abilities were decent too and he won Brock transformation contest earning him egg in process. And who can forget Happiny and incredible strength it possessed as baby helping group quite a few times when they were in danger, later evolving into Chancey. Which was one more hint toward Brock deciding to become doctor.

Lastly, let's imagine for a second that Brock left the series at the end of Johto when Misty did. How much of AG or DP would truly change if he wasn't there?
Im not fan of character who is appealing leaving series and has room to be done more, being one of reasons why i didn't welcomed Misty leaving cast, as well May.
So im glad Brock was kept for longer allowing us to learn more about character, family and nice bonding he had with Forest becoming proud and more compassionate, we saw more being done about his breeding career and he brought many enjoyable moments to cast(especially with Max around who compensated for lost of Misty with Brock having someone to who he could relate to making half of good dynamic AG cast brought).

Im also glad we got to see Brock dealing with self doubts not being sure what he wants to do in life, and foreshadowing to change of carer and only thing i would change is giving Brock more focus and chance to be developed while he was on cast.

I'm not sure about that. They didn't make a huge deal about Brock giving Ash advice in the original series, at least from what I remember, and he still did that from time to time in AG and DP anyway.

I don't really think that's too problematic either. I think that having a small amount of Pokemon for his team worked better with Brock's role and they were all more memorable than any of his other Pokemon. Since he didn't battle too often, it makes sense that not too many of his Pokemon would evolve. Plus, after he got Sudowoodo, I don't think that they could have done much with his team. They probably wanted to keep Happiny as a baby until near the end of the series and they obviously couldn't have Croagunk evolve with it being involved in a running gag, having that rivalry with that Toxicroak from Team Galactic and basically being another mascot for DP. They probably could have done more with Happiny so that it could have become a Blissy by the end of the series instead of just a Chansey, but I'm still guessing that they wanted to keep it as a baby for cute marketing and Brock getting a Chancey kind of singled his choice to become a Pokemon Doctor.

Well, I can't say much for AG at the moment since I haven't seen anything besides the first season for a long time, but with DP, he did play an important role with the Team Galactic climax and his lessons to Dawn about Pokemon medicine helped her to get Mamoswine to listen to her. That may not be a lot, but it's still important with both the storyline and with Dawn's character.

Anyway, I did like Brock's role on the show. He was a fun and likable character and I think that he worked as the mentor/more knowledgeable trainer of the group who took care of everyone. I don't think he got more focus in the original series. I thought that he got more attention with each new series and DP did give him a couple of important roles. To be fair, even though he got more screentime later on, he still blended into the background at times and I think that they could have done a better job with him, such as maybe hinting at Brock wondering what he was going to do after the Sinnoh League before it actually ended. While his running gag got pretty old, Croagunk attacking him made it hilarious to me again. I liked his interactions with the other characters and I thought that he got along with them quite fine, including Dawn. I didn't even mind that he was in the cast for so long because he did his role fairly well and I could still like him, as well as find him entertaining, in DP. It would be nice if he could make an appearance again, rather than just being mentioned, so we can see how he's doing with becoming a Pokemon Doctor.

But it wouldn't be hard to write the Team Galactic conclusion without Brock. Throughout Sinnoh he honestly felt like a stale collection of old gags with a handful of exceptions, and if he hadn't been there it wouldn't have been hard for the writers to give Uxie to somebody else. Or, you know, had the Platinum showdown instead of the D/P showdown, which would've been vastly better and still wouldn't need Brock.

The only thing he really did i nAG and Dp was flirt with the girls. So yes, AG and DP probably wouldn't of changed that much if Brock wasn't in it.

i think that brock should have left before dp because he did not play a big role and he was a waste of space that did nothing but he seemed important in the episode when he had to look after pokemon that got poisened by tentacruel and nurse joy asked him to be a pokemon doctor (BORING)

Yes, but the Team Galactic arc could have also been concluded without Dawn or even Ash if they weren't part of the group, so why does any of this matter? The fact is Brock got a major role in the TG storyline, which is a good thing - and probably the biggest role he's ever had in such an event in the anime.

I loved brock and i will always be a fan , hope he will make some appearences in the future. He was fantastic in kanto and Johto, less so in hoenn, and by sinnoh, the writers had no clue on how to handle him

That said, he was a huge reason why i become a fan of the anime, so i will always miss him

    LMAO

He hasn't done anything in years besides cook and hit on women. Actually that was pretty much the only point of his existence. So ash and girl won't starve.

YES I DID. But, when you drag a character out for sooo long and not develop his character, not make him slightly mature through the seasons, he/she becomes like crap. And that what he was in Gen 4...

Brock had a role on the show?

Oh yeah, he was that guy who stayed way too long and did nothing except hit on women and point out when Ash had a type advantage.

    NO.

He was okay in the OS, but soon afterwards, it got to the point where he was just a one-note gag, you would forget he even existed until a "hot" woman appeared.

It's kind of hard for me to sum up my exact feelings of Brock. I never found him dull or boring like some people did, but sometimes his gag did get old.

I liked him the most during the original series and AG. In the original series, he and Misty were both there to help the newbie trainer Ash grow and develop into a better trainer. In AG he worked well with the group because the entire group balanced each other out nicely.

DP is when I felt bad for him, because there Ash and Dawn were both the stars and he was just there. It kind of felt like "Satoshi and Hikari's Advanture....oh, and Takeshi is tagging along as well." Even if another character took his place it probably would ahve been the same because you have two characters who are meant to be the stars and you just have one other character who's just tagging along and isn't meant to get as much focus and development as the stars. In AG it worked because you had Ash and May as the stars (Even though in AG they call it just "Satoshi's Adventure" I still consider May to be a costar sicne she did have a quest of her own and she was just as important as Ash in that arc) and you had Max and Brock who could interact with each other and keep each other company. Meanwhile in DP, Ash and Dawn were the stars and poor Brock was all alone on the sidelines. That's just what it felt like to me.

    Look Forward, Team Rocket!

Also I claim Piplup in the Claim a Pokemon thread =)
