Memorable: Pidgeotto. Appeared in numerous episdoes, even though it was never used in battle as much as it should've been. Ash's battle with Falkner and the part where he remembered his own Pidgeot has always been a special class moment for me. Ash and Pidgeotto were closer than any of his other bird pokemon.

    Favorite: Pidgeot.

Useful: Swellow, if only for its amazing ability to take hit after hit. It has a lot of key victories under its belt. Its able to take electric attacks and still get back up for more.

Based on Strength, its probably one of the later birds, since later seasons have had more "intense" battles.

However, my favorite is Pidgeot. It looks cool and Ash could ride it, how fun!

    Memorable, Useful, Favorite: Noctowl

Noctowl, until Sinnoh, could use Hypnosis as a calming mechanism, use Foresight to copy Lion-O, er, I mean see beyond the other birds' range and dispel illusions, can use Psychic moves, and is Shiny(using this for OBVIOUS reasons), and performed the standard bird Pokémon functions better than the others. Plus, it was unique among it's own species, and is smarter than Staraptor, Pidge, Swellow and Tranquill combined.

Therefore, IMO, it wins in all the categories.

Memorable: Definitely Pidgeotto - One of Ash's original five best pokemon along with Squirtle, Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Charizard. In one of the remake songs of Mezase Pokemon Master, there had been voices of Ash's five main pokemon recorded in the song - Pidgeotto was included in there. Although it was not used in battles that much, I still remember how Ash relied on him occasionally, and if I remember correctly, there was this episode where Ash and the group were talking about how they wished Charizard was nice and obedient like Pidgeotto. I think he had the best personality out of the other birds and very attached to Ash (I'm sure if Ash taught it Return, it would've been a huge sweeper) . I cried when Ash released him.

    Favorite: Pidgeotto.

Useful: Swellow. The battles were epic. It was the first time I ever seen a bird being resistant to electricity. Too bad I didn't see much of AG to see all of Swellow's battles...

    My pick is Pidgetto

Memorable? Well, the birds of earlier gens have degrees of notoriety that stay fresh in my mind even after all this time, though mostly not for good reasons. Pidgeot was pretty much a balloon popper in its heyday as Pidgeotto, and the most notable thing about it is the fact that Ash promised Pidgeot he'd return to it someday, and we all know how well that turned out. Hah... tragic. Noctowl stands out if only for its unusual size and being a shiny, though it did make a damn good impression in the Conway battle. You'd think it would've gotten a major concussion after taking hits from a Power Trick'd Shuckle, but I think the battle proved Noctowl is the bulkiest of Ash's regional birds. So yeah, I guess those two would be the most memorable.

For most useful, I'm gonna say Staraptor. It became quite a beast of a Pokemon over time, even saving the day in the episode where it became Staravia. It was actively trained with Reggie's help to learn Brave Bird and excelled in several of its Gym Battle performances, in addition to standing out against Paul by beating Honchkrow in PokeRinger and beating Paul's Weavile despite the type disadvantage thanks to Close Combat (see, this is where match-ups with type disadvantages can work!). To put it simply, Staraptor was utilized for more than balloon-popping. AG's honestly a blur in my mind and all I remember about Swellow is that it won the first PokeRinger tourney, but I've heard numerous good things about how useful it was in the series, so I'll blindly take their word for it.

And I just like Staraptor the best. It's just an awesome bird; it's the only regional bird I deemed worthy of having on my main team in the games, so I have bias towards the species in general anyway. Staraptor may not have been the most developed Pokemon of the DP team, but it was still enjoyable and managed to avoid being balloon-popping wallpaper.

Swellow was the only bird that caught my attention after Pigeot was kicked off the air. Battles were awesome. Starvaria was cool but Staraptor's character was deep and very serious. I didn't relate to him as much. I don't want to even touch the Tranquill subject.

    I voted without answering :P

My favourite's Noctowl and I feel he's the most memorable cause he's the one that the writers deliberately made as different from the generic bird stereotype as possible, not just in terms of shininess and his psychic attacks, but the cleverness and brains. He showed he could kick some ass, won Ash a badge almost all by itself and really shined in the Sinnoh League.

So, I'd tie it with Staraptor for most useful. Staraptor is the best physical battler and can cause damage while Noctowl stand back and kinda waits attacks from a distance. Swellow, Pidgeotto and Tranquil, I could have done without tbh, there was nothing really interesting about them in my opinion.

Swellow was possibly my fave. It was so resilient and tough in battle. More than youd expect from the Regional Bird pokemon.
Staraptor i felt had the Best moveset. Noctowls obviously massively unique and proved to be a powerful battler in the sinnoh league with some new moves, so it too is pretty awesome. Pigeot i wouldnt really care about if not for the fact that it was Ash's First regional bird lol, it just holds that sorta Nostalgic factor. As for Tranquill, at this point it would bother me if they fazed it out like the GS ball haha.

Swellow was the best comparitive to his contemporaries, but (besides Sceptile) Ash's Hoenn team was pretty rubbish. I think that Staraptor is the best bird but comparative to Ash's Sinnoh team he's pretty rubbish

Memorable? Staraptor - awesome design and he has had some pretty epic battles.
Useful? Noctowl - he is Ash's only pokemon to use Psychic moves and proved to be one of his best general in the Sinnoh League. Not only that he pretty well against Morty way back when and was actually the main battler in that Gym.
Fav? Pidgeot. He WAS awesome and strong from the few times we saw it. He beat Giovani's RYHDON with a QUICK ATTACK AD DOUBLE EDGE! He flew Pickachu and ash in a balloon to the league and when he evolved, his wing attack made bright blade thingy's and he flew light a rocket! Oh, technically he fought in a gym battle - against Misty, beating her starmie.
