Re: Family Recipes
I have several family recipes. Mostly from my father and step father's side. Once I return home and get my camera working again, maybe I'll post a thread up in here detailing some of the recipes I make. I don't really have anything from my mother's side, since she doesn't really teach me them. It's a shame, really. I do enjoy a lot of those Filipino dishes.
As for the family recipes I know from what I've learned at all from my fathers, here's a list:
Dunn-made Honey Glaze
Holiday Eggnog
Spaghetti sauce
Raspberry Marinade Chicken
Cheddar Meatloaf
Shepherd's Pie
Lasagna
Asley's Chocolate Cake + Icing
Then there are several of my own recipes that I've come up with while living with my fiance. I'll probably get those done at some point in the thread I make later. :U

Re: Family Recipes
My mom's green-bean soup. She got it from her mother.

Re: Family Recipes
Vegetarian dishes, I'm lucky my mom cooks the best veggie dishes and I grew up loving them.
She said, her Vegetable curry has been a family tradition dish.

Re: Family Recipes
The only really family passed down recipe I know is our "Arthur Sauce" (Arthur is my last name). It's a caramel/toffee-ish sauce that we use on Christmas puddings. It's never been written down, so I'll try and get my mom to tell me the recipe to post it.

Re: Family Recipes
We have lots of cookies, but there is one that stand out in my mind. Dot's Chicken. This recipe is a doubled from the norm, by the way.
You'll need
8 kinless boneless chicken breasts
Two to three jars of salted beef
Two cans cream of mushroom soup
16oz sour cream
1. Layer glass baking pan or pans with salted beef
2. Place chicken breasts in pan on top of beef
3. In a suitably sized bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup and sour cream
3. Stir till it's well mixed
4. Pour over chicken breasts in pan
5. Place in a 350 degree oven for approx. 45 minutes
SERVE
It used to be one of my favorite dishes that my mom made. She got it from her mom. Who got it from a friend of the family. It's insanely good, easy, fairly fast, requiring little prep work and cooking it is as simple as setting the timer and waiting.

Re: Family Recipes
I know this will be a double post but this is the hands down best way to do mashed potatoes in the world. Trust me here, bros..
Ingredients:
Pound of potatoes
Stick of butter
16 ounces of cream cheese
16 ounces of sour cream
A block of extra sharp cheddar cheese
A little salt and pepper
Some bacon is optional, and I'll explain that in a moment.
Preparation:
1. Peel each potato. After you finish peeling it, give it a rough chop and plop it into a pot (or bowl) of cool water. We don't want them browning and getting gross, do we?
2. Take your misshapen chunks of potato and boil 'em mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew.
3. Take your freshly boiled taters and mash 'em. Once mashed, take a hand mixer to them and mix them until they're insanely smooth.
4. Add your butter. Mix it in.
5. Add your sour cream. Mix it in.
6. Add your cream cheese. Mix it in.
6.5. Add salt and/or pepper to taste
7. Take the hand mixer and give it another go to ensure maximum smoothness
8. Pour this mixture into a glass pan and pile the shredded cheese on it
9. Keep it warm in the oven until they're needed. If you need them to go fast. Pop it under the broiler to melt the cheese more quickly.
Second (and optional) preparation:
1. Boil the potatoes with the skin on.
2. Once boiled, halve them long way (know what I mean?) and scrape out the potato.
2.5. Rub a little salt on the outside and put them under the broiler for a second, let 'em crisp up a little, basically.
3. Follow steps 3 through 7 the same way.
4. Fry up some bacon.
5. Chop it up into smallish pieces. Now mix this into your taters.
6. Put your potato/butter/cream cheese/sour cream/bacon mixture into those potato skins
7. Shredded cheese on top of that
8. Put it under the broiler to melt the cheese and help heat everything else up one last time.
9. Done!
