Yes you are, you're using the word on the things you hate.

    Listen to me.

I use "overrated" to describe something that is highly popular that I don't understand the appeal for. That doesn't necessarily mean that I hate it.

Then what about the stuff you like, which are also overrated by a ton of people?

Over-rated is an adjective, not a verb. Thus a person can not over-rate something.

Actually, now that I look that over a bit, I suppose it would be fine as a verb, but it typically is used as an adjective meaning "too hyped, not living up to the high praise it has been given", and other similar things.

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with Gay or Overrated.

I can think of 5 more offensive things easily off the top of my head.

@Maelstrom; Gay is offensive in many situations because gay people don't like their sexuality to be used as an insult. Now, if you saw a guy wearing pink shoes and you said "That's gay", that wouldn't be so bad because that is literally kinda gay to wear pink shoes. But if you're insulting a TV show or something, and you call it gay, then it's crossing the line. Unless of course the TV show is literally kinda gay.

I don't think it's a huge deal, but I still don't like to use "gay" as an insult.
