To start off I want to thank Brooklyn Bridge Academy for giving me this chance, Miss Slater for helping with this speech, you rock Ms. Slater, my mother, the best one ever, my grandmother for typing as I spoke this, my family for their support, love you guys, the heavenly father, and anyone else involved in this. I am extremely honored to be valedictorian and happy to know that you do not have to know how to spell valedictorian to be one, because I did not know how to spell it.
I am proud to represent the BBA graduating class of 2011. We are the future. We are the ones who can change the world, for the better or for the worse. Preferably we will improve the world, because truthfully the world is not too bright. I once read something that talked about how on the Internet we can make friends and get along with each other even though we are from different countries, while ambassadors, presidents, and other leaders can not make peace. I love the Pokemon games, yes Pokemon. I also am a fan of the Fire Emblem series. Both are series from Japan. I have no doubt that I could make friends with someone in Japan just by these two games as common interests. People do not need to have everything in common to get along, all they need to do is avoid saying or doing things that will tick each other off. Some may argue that war gives jobs, but it also kills family members, and takes money from more important things such as school. Our education is important, because it is our way to destroy major conflicts. We know that there are ways to coexist with those we do not like, because that is what we just went through in high school. Even with the fights we figured out a way to keep peace that allowed us to be here today.
High school never ends. It is that simple. I have learned that and after experiencing it for myself, and noticing it by watching the adults, I have to thank Bowling for Soup for teaching me that lesson. They are a band with a song called "High School Never Ends".In the song the chorus really sticks out to me, it says and excuse some words:
"The whole damn world is just as obsessed
with who's the best dressed and who's having sex
who's got the money, who gets the honeys
who's kinda cute and who's just a mess"
The words are entirely true. All we hear is:
"Lindsey Lohan stole a one of a kind necklace."
"Jenifer Lopez was named the most beautiful woman."
"Vanessa Hudgens posted naked pictures of herself on myspace."
Everyday is filled with bad news not only about the stars we have an abnormal obsession with, but news period. It is never about stars donating money to good causes or a citizen saving a cat from a tree. It's always buses crashing and people dying. News is not the only issue with society, we can not decide how we dress or act without being treated badly. We wear rainbow clothing as adults we are automatically homosexuals. I am a christian and to us rainbows are God's promise to never flood the earth again, and skittles. Rainbows are also skittles. You wear a bunch of different "non-matching" pieces of clothing, then you don't belong in society. It sucks.
As the graduating class we have the power to change these things. We are the ones who dictate the world. We are the ones to stray from the bad news and bring out the good. We hold the future in our hands, minds, and hearts. We survived high school now we are about to go through it again , but this time we have all the power. So let's go forward and make a good future, for ourselves as well as for others. Let's do our best BBA graduating class of 2011.
Graze para listening.
