508 EVs versus 510 EVs...
Hey guys, hope I'm posting this in the correct place.
I've just read this...
''The EV lady
There is a lady in Opelucid City, directly north above the Pokemon Center. She will tell you if your Pokemon is fully EV trained or not. However, she looks for 510 EVs, while the effective maximum is 508. So all you need to do to check if you've done it right is to train to 508, and talk to her. She should tell you that your Pokemon "looks like it can try a little harder." Save your game and then use 2 wings (in any stat). She should then tell you your Pokemon has "put in a great effort!" You can then reset to go back to bring back your wings and set you back to 508 EVs.''
...and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. I mean, I don't really understand the whole ''effective maximum'' thing. If you can put 510 EVs into your Pokemon, surely that's the most effective thing to do..?
This might come across really noob-ish but I just don't get it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Re: 508 EVs versus 510 EVs...
For every four points you put in a stat you gain one stat boost. Therefore as 508 is a multiple of four an extra two makes no difference.
Re: 508 EVs versus 510 EVs...
God that's so simple.
*facepalm*
thanks very much! :)
Re: 508 EVs versus 510 EVs...
I just do 510 EVs. its loads easier to just be lazy and max out the stat then to reset some EVs cuz of 2 pointless EVs.
Re: 508 EVs versus 510 EVs...
But if you save the two extra EVs then you can use them on a different stat. Which may (not very often) save your ***.

2 evs cannot ncrease a stat. You need 4 for that.

I meant take two EVs from two stats; eg you have 252 in Sp Attack and 252 in Speed.use the 4 you have remaining and put it in HP.
Thats what I meant.

thats the method what most people follow to get their pokemon up to the best of their (even if its one hp stat or attack or whatever it might just help you win)
Re: 508 EVs versus 510 EVs...
I always train until I have 510 EVs, just in case.
