The Zodiac Cycle: A COMPENDIUM OF TOTAL WORLD KNOWLEDGE
This is a handy place for me, and hopefully in the future my readers, to keep track of the complicated world and terminology of my Zodiac cycle.
The Zodiac Cycle is a series of twelve inter-connected stories, all named after a different animal of the Chinese Zodiac. The titles are as follows (in pattern [Title - Zodiac Animal - Pokemon]):
1. The Bloodhounds - Dog - Growlithe/Arcanine
2. Tiger Blood - Tiger - Raikou
3. The Snake Who Wanted to be a Boy - Snake - Snivy/Servine/Serperior
4. She Rode a Pale Horse - Horse - Rapidash
5. Down the Rabbit Hole - Rabbit - Wigglytuff
6. Lamb to the Slaughter - Sheep - Flaaffy
7. The Human and the Primate - Monkey - Aipom/Ambipom
8. Kung-Fu Chicken: Blazing Kick! - Rooster - Combusken
9. Season of the Tauros - Ox - Tauros/Miltank
10. The Pig's Master - Pig - Grumpig
11. Legend of the Weeping Dragon - Dragon - Dragonite
12. The Rat - Rat - Raticate
They're in the order I plan on writing the stories, not in chronological order. The Snake Who... is chronologically first. The Rat is the grand finale, where everything starts actually making sense, and a FINAL CONFRONTATION happens, of course.
Expect more here later. Of course, I can't say much yet. it would spoil too much.
THE BLOODHOUNDS GLOSSARY OF TERMS
"The Bloodhounds" - The informal name for a special task force of the International Police set up to deal with serious Pokemon crimes. It's officially known as the Division of Special Operations. Although based in Sinnoh and tending towards investigating crimes in the Four Regions (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh), the International Police allow them to operate anywhere, with the understanding that if they get caught infringing on other governments, they would be disavowed. The task force was the brainchild and special project of Gary Aggeliki, a high ranking IPA agent. It's able to tackle crimes others can't because every member of the task force would have to be an accomplished Pokemon trainer in addition to being fully trained in law enforcement. Gary argued that to combat criminals using strong Pokemon, the IPA would need to fight fire with fire, so to speak. His second reason was that he'd gotten sick of reacting to crimes that had already happened. He believes the task force could preemptively neutralize problems, using spy technology, psychic Pokemon, and an advanced data network.
Gary Aggeliki - The Agent in charge of the Bloodhounds. Gary almost never goes into the field himself, but instead gives orders from his office. Many have underestimated his intelligence, but despite his tough exterior, he's a brilliant thinker.
Jacqueline Derrida - The Bloodhounds' field commander. A French national, Jacqueline is an outgoing hedonist; skilled at making friends, and even better at having a good time. But she never lets pleasure get in the way of her work. Her twin areas of expertise are in psychological profiling and marksmanship. Her main Pokemon is her Magnezone.
Sydney Stanwyck - The Bloodhounds' Conflict Management Specialist (read: battler). Sydney is always fashionably dressed, excessively polite, and effortlessly graceful. He comes across as a self-important artist or fashion designer; this is largely a calculated move, as he takes great pleasure in psyching out people. In public he maintains this persona, but with people he trusts, the real Sydney comes out. His main Pokemon is a Salamence. Or an Electivire. Depends on his mood.
Tony Girard - The Bloodhounds' Pokemonology Specialist. Tony is a fairly successful womanizer, leaving a trail of ex-girlfriends everywhere he goes. But he never has a girl for more than two weeks. In general, his attention span is fairly short, and before he worked for the IPA, he ping-ponged from one odd job to another, never satisfied. The IPA saw raw potential in him, and paid for his Pokemonology education. Pokemon studies, it turns out, are the one area he's never distracted from. Tony relates better to Pokemon than people, not because he has bad social skills (quite the opposite) but because he dislikes people. His main Pokemon is a Smeargle.
Maya Campos - The Bloodhounds' Tech Expert. Maya is paranoid nearly to the point of schizophrenia, but for the IPA that's just what they need. Her paranoia drove her to be an expert in surveillance, listening, data networks, tracking, and computer hacking. She tends to vacillate between perky optimism and a crazed paranoiac gloom, often switching gears with no warning. She's an expert at finding the tiniest of flaws in otherwise perfect systems. But her paranoia leaves her unable to trust that ANYONE is on the level, so she never trusts her team, and always sabotages her relationships. Her main Pokemon is a Porygon-Z.
Jennifer Lange - The Police Chief of Green Terrace, a medium-sized city south of Hearthome. Green Terrace had in recent years been home to a number of Pokemon selling rings, battle gangs, and steroid manufacturing, but Lange systematically stomped it out. She gained national attention when she caught a serial killer of Pokemon when he tried to kill in Green Terrace. Jennifer is reserved, quiet, but in an intense way. She chooses her words carefully, and has a razor-sharp wit. Her most defining trait may be her fanatical drive to solve cases. She could have time for a social life if she chose to, but she denies herself that, perhaps as a form of self-inflicted punishment. Her main Pokemon is an Arcanine, although she also has a Spoink, a Crawdaunt, a Staraptor, and a Jumpluff.
