This is essentially just a guide to my series of Skyridge fics. The first one alone is sixty chapters long, so it's understandable that you might not be bothered to read through it all to catch up! Instead, I'm going to keep a record of the entire series here, there'll be a complete set of chapter summaries, character profiles, and a list of 'odd phrases', which is essentially a list of things that I've added to the Pokémon world that require a bit of explaining, such as new locations. Eventually, I intend to add a crude map of the actual Skyridge area, north of Cerulean City, but I'm not exactly a skilled artist, so you'll have to bear with me on that.
Eventually I hope to have a whole network of Skyridge fics based in the same universe, said universe merely being an extended version of the one that we already know and love from the games and anime. Ted's Story will be the main base of everything to do with Skyridge, but eventually I intend to write shorter fics surrounding this, such as back stories for some of the other characters, as will as stories about new characters after Ted's Story.

The first thing you need to know about this fic is that it’s set nine years after the events of R/B/Y, R/S/E, and FR/LG, obviously meaning it’s also six years ahead of G/S/C, D/P/Pt, and HG/SS. It’s primarily set in Kanto, with only a few chapters based in Johto. When you first read it, it might seem like another regular journey fic, but after just under fifteen chapters things take a turn and Ted is swept out of his Pokémon journey to serve a much grander cause, but more on that later.
The fic assumes the Pokémon world to be designed like that of the games, but to actually appear more like it does in the anime, with the cities being more like actual cities and everything. I doubt I really needed to put that out there, but just in case.
The last main point is that, because this is set in the actual Pokémon universe as Game Freak has created it, characters that appeared in the games obviously exist in this fic, I’ve just put my own spin on their personalities, but again, you could all probably have guessed that. I'll only give summaries on these characters if they have dramatically changed from how they are portrayed in the games or anime.
I’m not entirely sure how to go about doing this. I’ve decided to give you information on the protagonist, and then I’ll give a few sentences to summarise each chapter, and then I’ll fill you in on the other characters, but if that doesn’t work out so well or it’s difficult to understand or anything then I can change it.
I’m sorry to those of you who want to catch up without actually having to read the entire fic, only to come here and discover this massive amount of reading to be done, but all of this information is necessary for understanding the next fic, and I don’t think I’ve done too badly to reduce sixty two chapters and an Epilogue to just this!
As for those of you who have already read Liberation; I’m sorry, but the next fic won’t come out for a while, I want to give people a chance to work their way through this before I start posting the next one.
The Main Character: Theodore James Fox
Preferring to go simply by the name ‘Ted’, this is the main character (as suggested in the title) of the story. Turning fifteen years old in the first chapter, Ted lives in Fuchsia City with his father. They had lived in Cinnabar before the eruption, where Ted’s father had been one of the scientists that worked in the fossil lab. Ted still considers the island to be his real home. Ted’s mother, Susan Fox, died when he was five in an accident on holiday in Snowpoint. Out skiing, she fell and broke her leg, and being unable to contact anyone, she froze to death. Ted leaves home on his birthday with the family pet, Scarlet the Vulpix, now his starter Pokémon, getting a ride to Viridian deciding to do the Gyms in the traditional order.
Ted is about 5’8, quite skinny, and has freckles. Typically dressing in jeans, a yellow t-shirt, a green, short sleeved shirt, and green converse, he also starts the fic with his hair dyed green, however as he grows up throughout the story he allows this to fade away. This hair is of average length, wavy, with his fringe coming down to the top of his left eye. However, his most striking, and unlike his hair, natural feature is the colour of his eyes, which are a violet colour, caused by a slight genetic mutation from his mother’s albino genes.
He idolises famous trainers, particularly Red, and is seen throughout the novel to become nervous whilst in their presence, although again, as he moves through the various events, this becomes less and less prominent. He’s also somewhat pessimistic, but determined, usually (but not always) willing to fight on no matter how bleak things seem. The main driving force in his desire to become a Pokémon trainer is more just to prove himself than anything else, always feeling he has to impress and not let anyone down, particularly once he is made an official member of the League of Skyridge. Another thing that should be noted is that he’s extremely squeamish, always beginning to feel queasy upon seeing badly injured people or Pokémon, having to stop at multiple intervals throughout the fic just to throw up.
Almost as soon as he meets her, he develops an attraction to Penny, which grows into a fully fledged set of romantic feelings very quickly. Oblivious to the ways of women, having only had a few male friends as a child, he fails to spot that these feelings seem to be returned, and also that Alice, a fellow League member, also seems to develop feelings for him.
Party (in order of ‘capture’):
Scarlet the Vulpix: Ted has already decided not to allow her to evolve, having grown up with her as his closest friend. She’s by no means Ted’s strongest Pokémon, but she’s probably his most reliable, and also the one that most resembles him. She often remains outside of her Pokéball.
Rose the (shiny) Butterfree: Almost as soon as he starts his journey, entering Viridian Forest, Ted is lucky enough to catch a shiny Caterpie. Despite her immense value, she is Ted’s weakest Pokémon, but also the most determined, desperate to make up for her lack of strength, and has managed to pull through on a number of occasions.
Ralf the Venusaur: After finding and saving an injured Bulbasaur just East of Vermilion City, Ted adopts him and he quickly becomes a trusted ally. He evolves into an Ivysaur fairly quickly, however his untimely evolution into Venusaur (this shall be explained later) results in the death of one of Ted’s other Pokémon, and at the end of the fic, Ralf is left with an overwhelming sense of guilt.
Fang the Aerodactyl (deceased): After receiving an Old Amber from the Pewter Museum as a reward for retrieving some stolen items, Ted brings the Old Amber back to his father in Fuchsia who then uses his old knowledge and machinery from Cinnabar to resurrect a male Aerodactyl who ends up becoming Ted’s main mode of transport and a powerful member of his team, however is tragically killed near the end of the fic when Ralf evolves into a Venusaur whilst riding him, suddenly becoming to heavy to carry. Fang drops his passengers as a result and is dazed as he tries to rebalance himself in the sky, and this in combination with a slight flair of overconfidence allows him to be hit by a fatal attack from the enemy.
Hakai the Dragonair: Given to Ted by Ledge as a Dratini, Hakai’s original origins are currently unknown. Hakai doesn’t seem to have much of a personality, being more of a fighting machine, carrying Ted’s orders out efficiently and without question.
Link the Gallade: Easily Ted’s most powerful and most interesting Pokémon. Assisting him multiple times before actually being caught, Link’s initial helpfulness is quickly made redundant by an apparent fear of battling. However, when Ted is in a situation of desperate need, Link would always appear at the last second to release immense and unnatural power, even evolving during a battle with an opponent that should have, quite literally, crushed him. However, after becoming a Kirlia, Link begins to show an uncontrollable violent streak; almost as if he occasionally lost control of his own body, his own face being riddled with fear as he tore opponents apart. Eventually he reveals his past to Ted using telepathy, showing that he was tortured and genetically modified by Team Rocket, making him extremely paranoid but also ridiculously paranoid, at the same time explaining why Link had been helping Ted against the Rockets before he even officially belonged to Ted. Eventually, in the last few chapters, Link’s violence becomes a major problem, and when Ted accidently allows him to evolve again with a Dawn Stone, Link goes on a violent rampage, killing several people and Pokémon brutally before Ted manages to restrain him back to his Pokéball.
