Welcome. Now do me a remix of Feel Good Inc. if you can. It's by Gorillaz.
I love that song! I should definitely do that.
In other news, new song!
Left Alone My first chiptune!
Actually Left Alone sounds like a New Age/IDM(Intelligent Dance Music) type of song.
This song has a great beat to it. I could see it being played at dance clubs. It's hard not to at least tap your foot to it.
It is pretty good.
Catchy, bassy, what the crowd wants.
Well, I have to say that Empyrean Union just blew me right out of my socks. There was one thing missing, though:
Have you ever listened to Lemon Jelly? Those guys do electronic music, but what I really really love about them is that they take sounds from TV or radio, for example in their most famous song "In The Bath" they have a British woman from BBC News or something, saying "What do you do, in the bath?" over and over again. Listen to them, and you'll see what I mean. I couldn't recommend them more for an electronic artist such as yourself! It's pretty hard to get me out of my hard-rock-ultra-phase-thing and both you and Lemon Jelly have gotten me to like electronic music. Well done indeed!
Seriously, though you have to listen to Lemon Jelly. I personally think it will make you so good that I would easily buy your album on iTunes! I'm not exaggerating.
I have to agree you should do Song 2 by Blur and Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz, since they are two of my favourite songs (the latter especially since I'd be interested to see what you do with funk and hip-hop). Oh God, did I mention I will never top this with my soon-to-come thread? This is so awesome, I actually spent three hours at the computer listening to this magic.
Glad you liked it! Empyrean union seems to be popular here. Like I said, it's my "masterpiece" as it is. I may remaster it sometime...
I've never heard of Lemon Jelly, but I'll be sure to check 'em out. I have actually been meaning to use samples like that for a while, I love music that does that. You'd actually pay for my music? How nice would that be... Maybe I'll release a commercial album when I get better. I'm working on the first step of remixing Feel Good Inc. right now(listening to the song incessantly until you have every bit of it memorized), and I have to say that it'll be interesting to see what I can do. Three hours? That's impressive, I commend you sir. You should let me know if you post any of your own music, I'd love to check it out!
In other news, I'm planning on posting a new song today, I'll edit it into this post so check back later. I may decide to not post it and instead continue mastering it in which case I'll upload tomorrow. Until then, here's one that I uploaded yesterday and forgot to post: Winds of Change It's trance, house, whatever you want to call it.
Though I must say, if you had to keep one part of Feel Good Inc instrumentals, it would be that bass line. Winds Of Change is quite clubby/New Age though thus it is trance. but lively trance after all. winds of change=7/10 sort of reminds me of When Love Takes Over by David Guetta. And I have a new artist to put on my favorite list among the ranks of Gorillaz and Muse, the new artist is , AetherX.
Of course I'll keep the base line, its probably the best part of the song! I'm surprised that it doesn't remind you of more songs. I think every single DJ uses that arpeggio in at least one song of theirs (Virtual Friend - Armin Van Buuren, and Tell Me Why - Supermode to name two, although they are different chords). Among the ranks of Gorillaz and Muse? D'aawwww, I'm flattered :awww:
I was listening to my newest song in my car today and realized that the bass is really muddy at parts. Since the bass is the most important part of that song, I've decided to spend some more time mastering. I should have it up in the next couple days.
I believe I can help...
I can play both Feel Good Inc. and Song 2 on bass and Song 2 on guitar (overdriven, of course). The bass line for Feel Good Inc. is:
D# - D# F F# B Bb - - G# - G# B Bb F# D# - -
Play it and it should become more apparent.
Also, could I request some funk? It's very easy to construct instrument wise; slap bass is a large (and my favourite) part, Sting occasionally uses trumpets and saxophones in his music as well. Drums/percussion are/is reggae-ish. Guitar should be clean, not overdriven or distorted. Keyboards are keyboards; they do anything and everything lol. Don't worry if you can't do funk with your current genre; the instruments I've heard are not vaguely funk-ish...not a negative, by the way.
Finally, I think Acid Bass would be a good instrument for you to use. The Queen song Radio Gaga utilized the Acid Bass really well with a bass solo. Acid Bass throws all that idea of muddy tones out the window because this is coated in the stuff! It will sound muddy, and it will sound good.
Hope all of that helped. I'm pretty fanatical about music. xD
Using the FL Studio keyboard interactive with the typing keyboard, this is the bassline for Feel Good Inc: D D G H M J H H M J G D
Can't wait, Axe. I compare you to a younger Jean Michel Jarre.
Double post =( Right, I've had a look at Into The Sky. I have feedback here (though it is from memory since my mum/mom kicked me off the Mac and onto my regular computer, where I'm physically banned from Newgrounds).
The intro was pure perfection. You achieved what many artists such as yourself strive to gain, and that is an image from the music. Lemon Jelly are good at doing such a thing (particularly with my favourite song of theirs, Space Walk). The two slurred pianos had a grand sort of atmosphere, and an eagle springs to mind. Very well done, though later I was a bit disappointed by the rather heavy and intense electro drumbeat. But hey, you write electronic. If it were down to me, a Rock artist, I would have put in a not too weighty, but energetic enough, drumbeat, such as the one in Whistle For The Choir by The Fratellis. I was also a little worried by the overusage of the crash cymbal.
Warning! Long post ahead!
I'll look into doing some funk, if only because I love slap-bass. Brass is dreadfully hard to emulate without live recordings, though...
I'm fanatical about music too, can't get enough!
Jarre? I wish!
Yeah, all the porn on NG can be kind of a bitch at times. You bring up some good points about Into the Sky. Looking back, I don't think that I did that awesome piano riff justice. Unfortunately, that's the case with a lot of my early songs. I had some great tunes, but horrible instrumentation. I should have done something a little calmer, but I got a little overexcited about finding some awesome drum samples that I just couldn't wait to use. I also blame the overuse of the crash on that as well. I'd like to go back and work on it, but that's kind of low on my list of priorities right now. Speaking of which:
For those who care, here's a quick list of what I'm working on/planning to work on. I usually do two songs at once, so the actual release times may vary, but this is the order of when I started them.
1. The song below
2. A mash-up of a pop song and something a little unexpected. This should be up in the next couple days.
3. A nuskool happy hardcore song (or at least hands-up). I've been trying to get this sound for a while.
4. Feel Good Inc. Remix (haven't really got this one going much yet).
5. By the time I get here it'll probably be late enough to start on my remix of Just a Journey Away.
tl;dr?
Then let's get onto the new music. If you like bass, then you should love this. Don't ask what genre it is, I have no idea.
Beg for More
I have been really enjoying listening to your music! All the songs are really well done, you have such talent! My favorite is definitely Into The Sky. I find it very uplifting and really nice to listen to.
And I enjoyed your newest as well. I really liked when you put the pauses in the middle of the song. And The title definitely intrigues me :) I look forward to future songs from you.
