    Default Capture Contest: WinterVines

    Post #1

    ~~~~~
    You enter the Valley and begin descending down a side path. There's a tunnel entrance up ahead, and you decide to investigate it. Before you can enter the tunnel, a Kirlia emerges. It sees you and challenged you to battle by thumping its chest then twirling around on its slender legs.
    (OOC: Weeeee ^^ Male Kirlia please. Also long post just because you mentioned doing it.)
    TP#1
    The ding rang out from her computer in a cheery tone.
    Ivy looked up from the stacks of papers in messy towers around her, putting down the manilla folder she had been looking through and brushing her long, red hair over her shoulder so it was out of the way. Despite being technologically advanced, Rangers were still required to keep hard copies of the runs they went on and any incident reports they were involved in. Unfortunately, some of the other Rangers hadn't put files in their proper places, even though this was her office. It left her file cabinets in a mess, and now she was the one that had to straighten them up. She must've lost track of time.
    “What was that one for, Haji?” she asked, forgetting what she had set the alarm for. Knowing her, it could be anything. She tended to get caught up in a lot of her work.
    She looked over at the Espeon sitting on her rolling desk chair, partially obscured by her red vest hanging over the back of it. She saw the purple cat stretch and sit up, moving the edges of the canvas coat. That was his perch usually, when she wasn't sitting in it. Even then, sometimes he thought it was best to sprawl across her lap, just like one of the Skitty that her older neighbor had as a kid. On those days she liked to nap too.
    Haji's ears perked up as he looked over at her computer screen. From her place on the floor, she couldn't see what it said. The cat focused for a moment before she felt that warm pressure on her mind.
    “It is for the event,” he said telepathically.
    “Oh, right. I almost forgot about that.” Ivy looked at all the papers around her and shrugged. “Guess this'll have to wait.”
    She got up and reached toward the ceiling, sighing when the bones in her back popped. She stepped carefully out of the circle of papers, trying not to knock them over and undo all the work she had been doing for the last hour or so. If she was lucky, nobody would come in to mess it up.
    She reached for her vest and slid it across her shoulders as she shrugged into it. She made a motion to open one of the steel desk drawers before she realized that she wasn't rangering in this event. She didn't really need any supplies if she remembered correctly. To make it fair on everyone, a supply basket was going to be offered to everyone that participated.
    The Capture Contest was a new thing they were trying out in the Park. They were hoping to make it a more permanent fixture if this one was successful. It was basically like a condensed run. Each contestant was given a number of Park balls, and once they ran out or encountered five Pokemon, they were done. In the end, they picked one they caught to be judged and the one with the most points receives a prize. She volunteered to participate so they had more people involved. It should be fun, she hoped.
    Ivy rolled up the sleeves to her black turtleneck as she took one more look around the room. She really hoped one of the secretaries didn't come in here while she was gone. It was still earlier morning, so hopefully the run wouldn't take that long. Still, it wasn't like she could lock the door or anything. One of the antics of Jack and Leo had busted the handle. They had yet to get it fixed, which was a pain. She didn't spend a lot of time in here, but a lock would've been useful today. The image of cleaning up a disaster zone of crumpled papers wasn't too appealing.
    “Ready to go?” Haji asked. He had stood up on the chair, looking ready to go himself. She was usually the one that asked that.
    “Oh,” she said, really hoping he wasn't going to be upset with her by what she was thinking.
    “You do not want me to go,” he said simply, reading her thoughts before she could say them out loud.
    She inwardly flinched. “It's not that I don't want you to,” she explained. “For the battling, they're judging according to official matches, which makes a lot of the stuff we do complicated to explain, and possibly even marked down for. What works in a normal run might not be able to work here.” Things like what happened on Deckbi or Oktori with the whole possession fiasco.
    He could probably see the things she was thinking about. The images danced across her mind. “So you want to take Haxbat instead. Understandable,” he said, sitting down on the chair again.
    “You're not mad are you? It's just he's really careful about his moves, so I know he's not going to accidentally knock a Pokemon out or something. I know you're careful too, but a lot of your techniques are mental.” She didn't want to make excuses, but that's what it sounded like. Haji was her best bet in any battle, she knew, but this even called for a little less power and a little more maneuvering. Her Crobat was the best at that out of all her Pokemon.
    There was also the fact that Haji was her main Pokemon in the Park. Despite him being somewhat new to the team (at least from Ambipom and Crobat's perspective), he was with her the most. He went on almost all of her Ranger runs, and he hadn't sat out when she went on personal runs. She didn't want to feel like she was ignoring the rest of her friends. She worried about things like that. When her only family were her Pokemon, it kind of became important.
    “Do not worry,” he said soothingly. “Haxbat is better suited for this. He can easily adapt to the rules.”
    Ivy breathed a little sigh of relief. “So you're not mad?” She had to make sure. She would probably go insane if he stayed angry with her. He was her source of conversation on most days. Not to mention their psychic bond made a lot of things not private.
    The purple cat shook his head as his tail swished behind him, rearranging himself to get more comfortable on the rolling chair. “I shall watch from here,” he said, indicating the monitor to her computer. They had the system linked to the cameras that were installed around Meteor Valley, the area that was chosen for the event this time. Supposedly it was going to be in a different location every time it was hosted. That was, if they could rally enough support for it. “I will see you at the finish line.”
    “Thanks,” she said, smiling like she meant it. Haji usually understood. It probably had something to do with their connection. It was hard to hide anything from him, but then again, when information was so open like that, it probably avoided a lot of fights and disagreements too.
    She made sure her phone was clipped to her belt next to her coil of rope out of habit. She doubted she'd need any extra equipment for a quick trip to the Valley, but she'd rather have it and not need it. Memories from her first run, when she got trapped in a cave-in without any supplies, flashed in her mind. She knew the caves pretty well by now, but some things were handy to have just in case.
    Ivy closed the door most of the way despite not begin able to lock it. Maybe that would deter anyone from trying to go in. Haji could probably handle keeping people away from the paperwork that was carefully piled, but she really didn't look forward to cleaning up a mess like that.
    The hallway was quiet surprisingly. Usually there were aides and other Rangers running around trying to complete paperwork, organize runs, and do the other odd jobs around the place. Everyone was either helping out with the event or going on a run themselves today. She sort of missed the noise.
    Then again, she thought as she came out into the main area, maybe she didn't. Usually the guys all whispered together as they ogled whichever secretary was in that day. Some of the comments they made were ridiculous. At least now they were quiet.
    One Ranger in particular was still watching the work behind the main counter intently. The red-tinted hair and detail-seeking eyes could only belong to Leo, one of her elite coworkers. He was something of a Casanova. At least that's what he thought. He was leaning back in one of the desks in the cluster that made up the work area. His feet were even propped up on one corner as he looked.
    Ivy followed his line of sight and came across Madison, one of the newly hired secretaries. Sometimes it seemed like they had a new batch in the office every week, but so far this one had stayed. Madison was beautiful, Ivy could give her that. What she wouldn't give her points for was the low cut shirts and short shorts she tended to parade around in. She got a little sick of everyone staring and making low comments. Some of the younger Rangers didn't know how to be discreet and tended to run into things when their attention was caught.
    She walked right into Leo's line of sight as she headed for the outside doors, looking his way and saying, “If your eyes look any harder, they might burn holes through the counter.”
    Leo laughed and pulled his feet off of the desk so he could sit forward a little, rubbing his hand on the back of his head. “And where are you going?”
    She stopped to answer, motioning toward the door with her arm. “Going to start the event run.”
    He made a thoughtful sound and even brought his hand up to stroke the non-existent hair on his chin before saying, “Really? I would've thought you'd be in the kitchen making the sandwiches for the Trainers, you know, being a woman and all.”
    She couldn't really get mad, even when he smiled. She just laughed at those jokes. It was fun to tease each other. The Rangers were a tighter-knit group. “Nah,” she said. “That's what we have you peons for. Don't you have some paperwork to do or something?”
    “In a bit,” he said, leaning to the side in his chair to get a better view of the secretary working behind her.
    Ivy just shook her head and smiled. “Hey, Madison,” she called. The blonde looked over from behind the counter with a questioning look. “I think the boss wanted you for something.”
    The lady smiled in thanks before scurrying off to the other side of the building, and Ivy had time to smile smugly at Leo's pout before leaving. That would teach him. If she was sneaky, she could add some of her paperwork to his piles too.
    Outside the sun was shining brightly, casting sharp shadows in the noon light. The skies were clear and the temperature was average. It was a perfect day for an event like this. They were lucky they didn't get called off for rain or something. That would be their luck.
    Ivy stretched her arms up high as a shadow loomed over her. She noticed it but pretended she hadn't so she wouldn't ruin the surprise. The creature behind her drew nearer, but she was ready. She barely ducked in time as something swooped over her head, sending her hair flying forward. She smiled as a large, purple bat settled on the ground in front of her, shifting his four wings. He normally roosted on some sort of perch, but other than the Outpost, there wasn't much to cling to. His massive wingspan was enough to frighten anyone if his large fangs didn't. In fact, some of the other Rangers were a little skiddish around him.
    “Hey, Haxbat,” she said to the Crobat. He chittered a greeting in response, showing off those teeth that he didn't use much. “You almost got it this time,” she indicated as she straightened the hood on her vest and she brushed her red hair back.
    His goal was to latch onto the fabric and pull it over her head as he went by. He used to easily be able to do it, but she had improved her reflexes and knowing when he was there. Training with him had made her a little faster on the reflexes since he was so speedy. She had to somewhat keep up so she could actually try to teach him things. None of her other Pokemon could match his speed either, and she was far from it. The training helped though.
    “Ready to go? Haji's going to stay behind and watch from the cameras. I think you'd be good at the official battle style, like we talked about before,” she said.
    The Crobat closed his eyes happily and fluttered his wings. She wondered if he ever felt left out, like she feared. He was her first Pokemon, caught just after she heard the news of her brother going missing. Her parents were already dead, and she didn't have any other family. She and the bat had shared a lot of rough times between finding a place to live and figuring out how to actually live when things were bad. He had evolved fast though, so at least he had been happy. Despite some of the events, she had been happy too, or at least as happy as she could be under the circumstances.
    When they had been really poor, she had battled a few of the traveling Trainers she met for extra cash, as outlined by the official league rules. Both Trainers bet a small amount, and winner took the prize after. They hadn't done too badly as a team then, and she was hoping some of that skill would come back today. It was rare she actually battled outside of the Park these days. Maybe this event would spark more of it.
    Haxbat caught air under his wings and launched himself up, gliding back over her head to hover being her shoulder in his usual spot. The four membranes easily kept him afloat for a long time without tiring him out, which was useful in things like this where he'd be her active Pokemon for the entire trip.
    “Shall we?” she asked, and then she started off down the south road, heading to Meteor Valley.
    She was coming up to the storage shed, which marked the technical edge of the Valley. After that was a somewhat steeper decline that led down into the main part. The first camera was on the back of the shed so they could view people coming down the hill. She remembered installing that camera herself.
    “Smile for the cameras,” she told Haxbat as they passed the small building. She didn't bother to turn around and look at it, instead watching her step so she didn't slip and tumble down the hill. That would make a great recap for the reel and for anyone else watching the cameras throughout the event.
    The devices had been set up all over the area for the purpose of observing all the Trainers wherever they went. It let the judges score and make a decision on the winner easier, since they could see all the battles. It made sure Trainers kept to the official style. It was a little difficult, since some wild Pokemon didn't understand how it worked, but a Trainer's job was to work around it.
    In theory, for an official match, Trainers took turns calling out moves and counters. It wasn't always going to work, due to missing and speed of Pokemon, but the idea was to not overwhelm the opponent. Matches were with single Pokemon, and like in the Park, no double-teaming was allowed. Of course, some people abused this, like some of the poachers and organizations she heard were making a fuss on the mainland, but they weren't official anyway.
    They made it down the hill, and Ivy heard the swoosh of the wind as Haxbat glided around above. He was usually pretty careful, but the Park was home, so he didn't need to hide in the shadows. There weren't a lot of places to hide out here anyway.
    A desk and small tent with red and white stripes was set up at the bottom of the decline, and Ivy recognized a purple and white monkey standing next to a couple of Park staff. He called out as she neared, and she smiled.
    “Hey, Ambi,” she said as the dual-tailed Ambipom came to greet her. He was one of her other partners. “Are you behaving?”
    He grinned and nodded his head rapidly, showing off his seemingly endless amount of energy. To help with the event, some of the Rangers sent out their Pokemon. Her Ambipom was here helping at the front desk. She thought Candle, her Chandelure, was out by the pond, making sure nobody had any accidents in the water, and Brin, her Conkeldurr, was in the caves for the same reason.
    “Hi, Rick,” she said to the Ranger on duty at the desk.
    He smiled and waved her to the signup sheet. “Just sign your name on the line by your name and go to it. You can take all day if you want, but I'm not sure if the judges are giving points for time or not. Ambi's got your basket of stuff.”
    She scribbled her name in, not sure if anyone could really read it, and took the offered pack that her Pokemon offered her. She opened the flap and saw pretty standard stuff in it. There were some healing potions, some Park Balls, and even one Pokedoll in case she had to run away from something really persistent. If all went well, she wouldn't have to use a lot of it.
    “Alright, I'm off,” she said, nodding to the other Rangers. Then she turned to Ambipom. “Don't be taking stuff out of people's supplies now.” She smiled as he gave her a cheeky look, holding both of his hand-tipped tails up like he was shrugging. He liked to play jokes sometimes.
    With a wave she left the tent and cut into the trees on the left. She wasn't really sure why, since the small cluster of woods was a pain to navigate through unless you were two feet tall, but her feet led her there anyway. Haxbat had no problem sliding through the branches, and she thought that he probably liked the dark places to conceal himself better than the open air. She struggled a little, but less than she would've if she hadn't traipsed through here many times before as a Ranger. She patiently held branches away so they didn't claw her face and stepped carefully so she wouldn't trip.
    Eventually she came out into the sandy area that spaced the trees around ten feet away from the caves. The rocky, moss-covered hills looked simple, but she knew that there was a complicated cave system in them. It was the same one she had been barricaded in once, on her first run as a Ranger.
    There was a cave entrance up ahead, so she started heading for it. It was as good a place to start as any. She couldn't remember where the cameras were out here, since she had worked with them a lot inside the caverns and out by the pond.
    Before they made it to the dark cavern, a Kirlia rustled its way from the trees and into her line of sight. Appearing quite feminine, the human-like Pokemon had a ballerina-type white dress on with slender green legs and a head full of hair in the same shade, appearing as two ponytails on the side. Looks were deceiving though. Just because Kirlia looked feminine and fragile didn't mean they were. Kirlia could evolve into Gardevoir or Gallade, a fierce fighting type. In fact, this one was male.
    He caught sight of them and stopped. Some glint to his eyes told Ivy that he wouldn't be satisfied until they battled. Some of the Ralts and Kirlia got upset by their feminine image. This one might've been aware of that. He thumped his chest, showing off his masculinity, but then he twirled gracefully in a circle, showing off his grace.
    She couldn't say she wasn't interested. Chainy, one of her coworkers, had a Gallade whom she deeply admired. They were great battlers and very loyal, and even though she had a few Fighting-types on her team already, she could already see a place for him. It was too bad Haji wasn't here; he might've been able to communicate with the Kirlia and figure out what he was like. She didn't want to offend him.
    “Okay, Haxbat,” she said nice and clear for the cameras that were surely watching. “This is our first challenge, and we're going to battle. He's a Psychic-type though, so we need to be careful.” At first she thought bringing a Poison-type to a valley filled with Psychic-types was a bad idea, but once she thought about it, she realized that most of her teammates were disadvantaged against Psychic, Ghost, or Dark-types anyway, so it didn't matter who she brought.
    They were going to have to be especially careful this time because there was a 'no healing rule' implemented into this event. It was basically a trial run at this point, but that meant she had to watch Haxbat's energy very carefully. She didn't want to have him get knocked out, and if that happened, their run was over.
    “Okay, we're gonna play off your strengths here. We need to weaken him enough for capture really fast so there isn't a lot of time for a counter attack. Surprise him with an Astonish first, and then hit him hard with a U-turn. Come back to me and I'll throw this ball.”
    She had never tried something like this before, where in theory everything happened so fast. Thankfully, Haxbat was speedy, unless the Kirlia did something to cripple him. If she remembered right, they could learn Thunder Wave, which would be very bad. She thought she had an item to heal it at least. There might not be time for that, though.
    With Astonish, Haxbat would swoop in with a surprise attack, exaggerating a strange face. Sometimes it was a scary version, and other times it was just shocking. Haxbat and Candle had practiced on random passerbys on the street near her apartment. It had the chance of startling the Kirlia so he wouldn't counter with a move. In order to preserve the Crobat's energy, she hoped he could pull it off.
    Then, with a powerful strike, Haxbat would use the momentum for the hit to spring back in her direction with a U-turn, sort of like the target was a springboard. Once he was back to her, she'd throw the Super Ball she had pulled out of the pack slung across her shoulders. Another one of the rules was that if your ball failed to capture the Pokemon, you couldn't reuse it like in a normal run. Ivy tried not to think about how not fun it was going to be picking up the spares littered throughout the Valley once the event was over. At least they had disabled the capture mechanism after it had been used once so no wild Pokemon would get caught up in them.
    Haxbat hovered above her, his body tense and ready to go. “Ready? Go!” she shouted, watching carefully for her moment to throw the device.
    The Kirlia valiantly ignores the frightening effect of Haxbat's Astonish, and launches a thin stream of lightning at the bat. His follow-up U-Turn knocks the Psychic-type over and the Super Ball absorbs the Kirlia without problem. You go to pick it up and then continue along the rock wall after deciding not to enter the cave. A blue rock laying on the ground catches your attention. You get close, and realise that it's not a rock when it levitates into the air.
    Haxbat pulled his best face as he rushed the Kirlia with his Astonish. The Psychic-type was knocked back, but he wasn't stunned enough not to retaliate. Ivy sort of figured that, as being male, he could possibly focus more on his physical might if he evolved into a Gallade. He would need to be tougher then, not flinching away from attacks.
    Before the Crobat could launch into his U-turn, the Kirlia lifted up one of his arms. Electricity crackled along the limb in a jagged chain. The thin whip flashed out quick, snapping over Haxbat's wings and making him screech in shock. Ivy flinched and hoped that the bolts wouldn't be enough to cripple her Pokemon. If his wings became numb, he'd have a hard time staying afloat.
    Thankfully, after the glow from the attack faded, Haxbat didn't look too injured. Still, she didn't want him taking too many more of those. It could've been worse; Kirlia had access to a lot of Psychic-type attacks, and one of those could've wiped her bat out.
    “You alright?” she asked over the fading static from the electricity.
    Haxbat chittered an affirmative and flew straight toward the Kirlia. Before he could react, the Crobat jerked his body so the sharp claws on his feet hit the Psychic-type first, and then he sprung backward. He got air under his wings and darted over to her again, and that's when she launched the Super Ball.
    With Haxbat safely out of the way, there wasn't anything obscuring the path of the ball. It tapped the Kirlia on the chest, and before he could move, the red beam of light sucked him up into the device. Ivy held her breath as she watched the ball wobble. It clicked after a few seconds as the light in the center lit up with red.
    “Yes,” she said, shaking her fist in victory. “Nice work, Hax.”
    She walked over to the fallen ball and put it in one of her vest pockets, making sure that the zipper was closed so it didn’t' accidentally fall out. It was a little early for celebration, but she was glad she caught this one. The end score by the judges determined if they could take a Pokemon out, and if they could, what rank it was. There was a chance that she couldn't keep this one.
    She chased those thoughts away with a shake of her head, making her wavy red hair flop around. She was here to have fun today.
    She looked back at the cave entrance and thought that she probably didn't want to head in there after all. This was a short run in theory, and she didn’t want to spend hours wondering through the many tunnels that crisscrossed throughout the hills. She trailed her hand along the rock wall as she continued in the sandy area, going south. It would eventually reach the pond in the back.
    The sun shone off of a smooth rock buried into the sand. It was a shiny shade of blue, and Ivy didn't think she'd ever seen one like that before. She reached down to investigate when the rock started to shake. She abruptly backed up as a metal Pokemon shook itself out of the sand. The red eye-like object in the center of a round head told her it was a Beldum, not a pretty rock.
    Immediately, Haxbat flew down in front of her, giving off a warning growl.
    “Easy,” she said, trying not to startle the mechanical Pokemon. “Let's try to get around it. We're not a great match for it. Hopefully this won't end in a fight.”
    The Beldum hovers high into the air, until it is so high that the sunlight makes it painful to look. You move on along the rock wall, until you find a large bowl-like depression in the ground, almost like a meteor hit. Smack-bang in the middle of the depression is a Claydol, which appears to be sleeping.
    The Beldum didn't look like it wanted to battle, thankfully, but that didn't prevent Ivy from tensing up her shoulders as the metal Pokemon started to hover higher. It didn't stop though, rising higher and higher until the sun glinting off the sharp panes of its body made it hard to look at. She rose her sleeve up to block out the harsh light as she watched the Pokemon float up to a ledge that they wouldn't be able to reach without a little bit of rope and climbing.
    She looked at Haxbat and shrugged, deciding to move on. She wasn't going to chase it if it wasn't interested. She motioned the Crobat onward, and her boots left small oval divots in the sand as they trekked.
    She followed the rocks around a bend and stopped suddenly, finding a large crater blocking her path. It was probably three feet deep only, but it was pretty wide. A rock or something had probably fallen from near the top to create the hole, but that wasn't what was resting in it.
    A Claydol was at the lowest point in the crater. Ivy had always thought that the china-looking dolls were pretty neat. It's limbs were held close to its large cylinder body by the Psychic energy it possessed. White markings decorated it, and there were even some outlining its eyes on its onion-shaped head. All eight of them.
    The large, pink orbs were all closed though, so the Ground-type must've been asleep. It was probably best they kept it that way.
    “Shhh,” she told Haxbat, bringing her finger up to her lips in the gesture. “Let's try to get around it before it wakes up,” she whispered. Because the pit was so close to the rock wall, they would have to go around the wide circle. Haxbat flew silently as Ivy began to creep around.
    You sneak past the Claydol successfully without waking it. Looking at a rock wall is starting to get boring, so you strike out away from it and head towards a small river you can see in the distance. Before you can get there, a Spoink surprises you from behind some small scraggly bushes.
    Ivy made it to the far edge of the pit with Haxbat hovering silently behind. Claydol didn't wake up, and she let out a breath of relief as she followed the rock wall to its end. The trickle of water caught her ears, so she threaded through the trees as she left the edge of the Valley, heading toward the water source.
    She emerged from the thick foliage alone, brushing twigs and leaves out of her red hair. Haxbat was nowhere to be seen, so he was probably playing ninja in the forest yet. That was fine, as he was sure to hear her if she called. If that failed, she could ask Haji to send him a message. They weren't far enough away from each other that mental communication was impossible.
    The water was nice this time of year, since it wasn't too cold. There were a couple of small streams like this back here, and some of the smaller Pokemon liked to hang around them. That would be a nice change, since she didn't want Haxbat to get injured. Fighting against something like that Claydol might've been disastrous.
    Suddenly, the foliage behind her rustled. She turned, half expecting her Crobat to come wooshing out at her, perhaps in an attempt to knock her into the water, but instead, a purple pig Pokemon on a spring came jumping out.
    It didn't stop lightly bouncing in place, and it had an orb on the top of its head. “Spoink!” it said. She had heard that if they ever stopped bouncing, they would die. That seemed rather sad. She wasn't sure if it was true, but she hoped not.
    Haxbat came soaring out of the trees after, knocking leaves and loose twigs in a rain on top of them. “Ack,” she said as she brushed herself off again. “Thanks for that.”
    The Crobat came and settled in front of her, looking at the small pig curiously. He made a chattering sound at it, and the little Psychic-type made a noise in return. She hoped it didn't want to battle.
    “What's with all the Psychic-types?” she asked nobody in particular. This was the Valley, so of course there would be many of them, but she hadn't seen a ghost or a Dark-type yet at all.
    She squatted down to the pig's level so she could talk to it, seeing a broken Park Ball underneath some brush. She picked up the disabled device and put it in another pocket so she could return it later. May as well safe herself some work. Then she turned to the wild Pokemon. “Is it okay if we pass? I don't really want another fight,” she said.
    The Spoink doesn't stop you from leaving, so you continue towards the tiny river. However, a couple minutes later you hear some noise behind you and you turn around to see that the tiny Psychic-type is following you.
    The Spoink just looked up at her curiously, so she wasn't sure what to do. It made no motions to follow her when she stood back up, so she looked at Haxbat and shrugged. She really didn't want to fight it.
    Ivy turned to head toward the river and follow along the bank, but after a few feet she heard the rustling of the grass behind her. She looked back to see the little pig hopping after her, intent with its eyes.
    The Ranger sighed and stopped, signaling to her Crobat. He swooped down in front of her, hovering between her and the wild Pokemon. She didn't want to fight, but she didn't have much of a choice. The rules stated that Trainers had to either run or fight the first five Pokemon they saw, and this was number four. She did have a Pokedoll, but there was still one more wild Pokemon to see, and if it was something Rare, she definitely didn't want to battle it. She had to preserve Haxbat until they were out of the Valley.
    “Sorry, little guy,” she said to the Spoink. “We have to get going soon.” Then she turned to Haxbat. “Make it quick,” she told him, not wanting to make the Psychic-type suffer.
    She stepped back a few feet to give the two battlers room and then started her instructions. “Rush in with a quick Bite, Hax. Try to startle it. Then hit it with an X-Scissor.”
    She was quieter than normal. She really didn't want to hurt the wild Pokemon, even though knocking them out didn't cause them any permanent damage. She didn't like to make a habit of it.
    Thankfully, biting was pretty fast, and when he was done with that, he could strike quick with his other technique. The glowing energy of X-Scissor hit hard too, so with any luck they could end this battle with their health still intact.
    Haxbat delivers a devastating Bite attack, but the Spoink is too hardy to flinch. Instead, it retaliates with a Zen Headbutt. Still, it can't withstand the follow-up X-Scissor, and it bounces away. You continue along to the river, where you find a Gothita playing happily in the water.
    (OOC: Whoops, almost forgot this XD Using my Pokedoll and an Energy Powder please.
    Haxbat bit into the little pig Pokemon, but the little thing didn't seem to be too startled. Instead, a glowing blue and purple-shaded energy started to form around the pearl on top of its head. Ivy flinched as the pig tensed on its spring. Before she could call out a warning, the Pokmeon launched itself right at the Crobat, nailing him as he tried to avoid the blow.
    The bat cried out and shook in the air for a moment, and Ivy let out the breath she was holding as the Poison-type didn't fall. Instead, he lashed out with an X-Scissor attack, just as she asked. The pig was knocked back head over curled tail, and when it got up, it decided it had had enough of them. It hopped away into the brush.
    “Well that was close,” she said, looking over her Pokemon carefully. “You okay, Haxbat?” she asked.
    The bat chittered an affirmative and flew onward, like he was telling her to come on. She just smiled and shook her head as she took a forward step, heading along the river.
    They reached a semi-shallow point and stopped when splashing was heard. Ivy looked over to the water and saw a tiny Psychic-type Pokemon playing in the water. She looked like a little gothic doll, and she shared a similar name. The Gothita looked up at them with huge eyes, fixating her gaze on them. Ivy could tell she wouldn't mind a battle.
    Haxbat was a little wore out though, since all the Pokemon they had run into were Psychics. He was breathing a little deeper than normal, but she knew he'd fight if she wanted him too. This was her fifth encounter though, the last one by the Event standards. She had one Pokedoll in her basket, and she planned to use it.
    “Hi there,” she said to the Gothita. “We need to get going, so we don't have time for a battle. I'll leave this with you though,” she added, pullling out the small, inflatable toy. She pulled the string and set the doll down next to the Pokemon so she wouldn't lonely and then stepped away.
    She found an Energy Powder in the pack too, so she offered it up to the bat as she motioned him down to her. “Okay, Hax, smile pretty for the cameras. It's time to finish this thing.”
    The Gothita happily takes the doll and runs off with it. You feed Haxbat an Energy Powder, much to his displeasure, and then the two of you head for the finish line.
