The trainer enters the gate to the park and walks directly down the path leading to the heart of the valley. A strong buzzing sound soon fills the air and a large Beheeyem appears.

    Default Re: Capture Contest: Bumblebee

When I heard about a contest taking place in the National Park, I was the first to sign up. I wanted to see what sort of Pokemon I would ran into. From what I heard, certain Pokemon were going to be excluded from this contest, which in a way was good for the people who were entering this contest, they wouldn’t run into the more Common Pokémon or Legendary Pokémon like you normally would in a regular run. I knew that I would have a slightly better chance at finding something good here than a regular run. The only drawbacks here were that you could only encounter five Pokémon. There were many Pokémon residing in Meteor Valley, five Pokémon out of all the Pokémon that lived there meant a good chance that something you didn’t want would come your way. Another drawback was that you could only bring in one Pokémon. I usually liked bringing in Mindbender alongside with Shadow. I usually brought in at least four Pokémon. I liked having a diverse team with me. Last, you couldn't use any healing items if I remembered correctly. I wasn’t sure exactly how they were going to tell if we did. Perhaps they’d follow us with a camera flying overhead or have some sort of Psychic Pokémon keep tabs on all the people here. I didn’t know, but I wasn’t going to risk it. I would go over the rules again once I was inside though.

"How are you feeling buddy?" I asked my loyal companion. The large dog with a slick, shiny black coat barked with excitement. He opened his snout and let his long tongue dangle there as he made panting sounds. I could tell he was a bit thirsty. He wagged his long, skinny tail with an arrowhead tip. He dug his razor sharp claws into the ground. I led him toward a small pond nearby. He lapped up some water and then we were on our way. “Ready for this?” I asked him.

He too was as excited for this contest as I was. I wasn't sure what exactly we would run into, but I knew that we were going to have to be careful not to take too much damage from any single Pokemon. Shadow had a good number of moves to do damage with at the Pokemon at Meteor Valley, but one thing he didn't have was healing type moves. It was quite unfortunate. He did have Rest, but that would leave the both of us vulnerable to any attack from any wild Pokemon that just happened to be passing by.

The day was pretty nice. The sun, although hiding behind thin layers of clouds, was providing warmth, which was good this time of year, the time where winter was ending and spring was beginning. That, mixed with the nice cool winter breeze felt pretty damn good. Weather like that made the day that much better. I picked up my backpack and strapped it around my dark grey t-shirt. I put Shadow's Pokéball into my left shorts pocket. I really had no use for it since Shadow had only been inside of that thing only once. He hated being in there and refused to ever go back inside. I respected that, but carried his Pokéball anyways for luck.

After Shadow and I were done and ready to go, we took off and began our contest run. There were people who had already started before us, but, since time didn't really matter here, that wasn't a concern for me. I did however, want to go as fast as possible, but remain efficient on health. I didn't want to be too careless. I reached into my backpack and read over the rules just to be sure I was on track. The Event Location is decided beforehand and all the Event Runs will take place at this Location. Future Catching Contests will be in a different location. This Capture Contest will take place in Meteor Valley. Trainer can only bring in one Pokemon. You must pay a three thousand dollars entry fee. Your entry Basket includes: three Park Balls; two Super Balls; one Hyper Ball; two Lava Cookies, two Energy Powders, one PokeDoll. Please note that unlike normal runs, balls break if they fail to capture a Pokemon. You may only use the items provided to you in your Entry Basket - this includes Digital Cameras, Pokeplayers, previously-obtained PokeDolls, etc. These items are for use during the event only and any left-overs are discarded when your Event Run ends. The Event Run consists of five encounters, all from the selected Location. Once your five are done, your run is completed. All healing moves and healing secondary effects are negated. If your Pokemon faints your Event Run ends, but you may still choose a Captured Pokemon to be judged if you managed to capture one.

“Well that is quite a lot of rules. Damn, I wonder if I’m going to remember all that.” I whispered quietly to myself, but loud enough for Shadow to hear. We began walking again. A couple of minutes later, we arrived at the gates of Meteor Valley. It didn't seem as gloomy as usual. In fact, it appeared to be much more lively, perhaps the park staff made it so because of the contest. Whatever the case, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be here. We had walked in less than a quarter mile before a strange creature appeared before us. It had a rectangle shaped, brown head with depressions on both sides. Black symmetrical lines ran down the front of its head area. Under the rim of where those symmetrical lines were, two light green eyes with small black pupils stared innocently back at me. The light brown collar like thing and the four dots on its chest began to glow a bright yellow color. It raised one brown, three fingered arm with red, green, and yellow dots and waved towards us.

"Beheeyem!" It cried out happily. I was quite surprised. Wild Pokémon weren’t usually this friendly. They’d either try to get away from us, or attack hastily. This one was rather different. I suppose Pokémon on this island weren’t used to seeing a lot of people like Pokémon from say Kanto. I guess that made them a bit more curious as to our intentions, which in turn made them friendly. It was a bit naïve, but I guess it was good for us. It felt a bit bad that the wild Pokémon didn’t know what was about to happen or about the outside world away from this place and what they were going to be used for. But I didn’t have time to think like that at the moment. It wasn’t like I treated them bad in any way or made them do anything they didn’t want to do. I just brushed the thought off and put on a smile.

"Hey there!" I answered back in a friendly tone. Shadow, replying in a similar manner. It appeared to want to battle, but it looked too friendly to battle. However, I felt compelled to accept its challenge. I reached into my right pocket and pulled out a small electronic device. The machine was a small, eight by five rectangle. It was all black with a yellow outline and buttons. I pressed the large yellow button towards the bottom right corner and a bright green light shot out and touched the brown colored Pokémon’s skin.

Beheeyem – the Cerebral Pokémon. Beheeyem is a Psychic type Pokémon that has the obvious ability Telepathy. It also knows Synchronize and seldom ones even know the ability Analytic. Beheeyem are about three feet to five feet tall and weights around seventy to ninety pounds. It uses psychic power to control an opponent's brain and tamper with its memories, making them better or worse depending on how they feel. They can even erase memories, which can be useful in certain areas. Beheeyem apparently communicates by flashing the multi-colored fingers on its hands, they also use that to express how they feel. They are weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost type moves, but can resist Fighting and other Psychic type moves. It knows several non attacking moves such as Trick and Wonder Room, Heal Block, and Barrier. It also knows good attacking moves such as the obvious Psychic, Shadow Ball, and Thunderbolt.

“Quite interesting Pokémon we have here, wouldn’t you agree Shadow?” I asked my four-legged fire dog. He barked in agreement and was excited to get to battle already. “We accept your challenge!” I called back. Beheeyem cried out in excitement and prepared itself to battle.

“Well, not here. This place doesn’t look like a good place to battle.” I said to the Cerebral Pokémon. Beheeyem looked around then looked back towards me and nodded, waving a hand over for me to follow. Shadow and I did.

We followed Beheeyem into a small opening that was slightly condensed in fog, but oddly enough, the temperature still felt the same, I wondered for a few seconds if Beheeyem was making an illusion in our mind. I wasn’t quite sure how to tell, but for the time being, I would have to ignore it.

Beheeyem motioned for us to take the first move. I kindly accepted the offer and began thinking of what I should use. I didn’t want to start off with an attacking move just yet. I wanted to either raise my stats/lower his stats, or inflict a status condition onto the Psychic type. However, if I did that, it would have to be Will-o-Wisp because if I used Toxic on Beheeyem, it could have the ability Synchronize and then Shadow would also be intoxicated. That was something that I just didn’t need right now this early in the contest. He had no healing moves, so I couldn’t afford for him to have a status condition already.

I knew that in order to be on the safe side, I was going to have to start this battle off with Taunt. That would be the best thing to do to prevent any status inflictions or stat up rising moves from Beheeyem. Then maybe we could move into Double Team. I am not quite sure how effective that would be on a Psychic type since they could read minds, but I was hoping it would be able to do that. Dark type Pokémon were harder to read than other types of Pokémon. It was something that perhaps could work to our advantage.

“Alright Shadow, start this battle off with Taunt. We want to prevent Beheeyem from using any non attacking moves. Then, we’ll try and confuse it with Double Team. Be careful and watch his movements. I don’t want you taking more damage than needed.” Shadow nodded and began making faces at Beheeyem. I wasn’t sure if Beheeyem could be baited like that, but I sure hoped it would take it. Whether it did or not, Shadow would then make several clones of himself and surround Beheeyem. This would put him in a position to examine the Cerebral Pokémon’s weak points. It was something he just recently started doing, which was extremely effective in our battles.

I always like watching Shadow battle. Seeing how strong he’s become since we first met made me feel proud. I had Shadow since he hatched from his egg. I was only seven then. He was my starter Pokémon and he’s been by my side since then. Shadow was by far my strongest Pokémon, both battle wise and in power. He didn’t look it, but he could sure pack a punch. I remembered back to when I first got him, it was one of the happiest times of my life. I had gone to the nearby hatchery to pick out my first Pokémon as an egg. My father knew the owner so he let me pick whoever I wanted.

“Are you sure this is the egg you want?” A tall muscular man said. He had a small Aipom on his shoulder who was taunting me by making faces and sticking out his tongue. I looked at the small black and red egg and nodded.

“I can’t explain it, but something is drawing me to this egg, calling me towards it. It’s like we’re meant to be.” I explained. “I know this is the one.” The man laughed and nodded. “I felt the same way when I met my starter Pokémon.” I touched the egg, and I could instantly feel the warmth flow into my body. The warmth gave me a sense of security. A flame was also created in me that day, the same flame that still burns in my body today. The first day I noticed Shadow’s egg beginning to hatch, I never took my eyes off of it. It took a couple of hours for him to hatch. Some hatchlings were instantaneous, but some, like Shadow took a while longer to hatch. The moment Shadow was fully hatch I could see great potential in him. Maybe that was the feeling all Trainers got with their Pokémon, but I knew Shadow was special, I could feel it. The first battle Shadow was in he easily won. Granted it was against a small Lotad, but for it being his first battle, and him being at a disadvantage, it was a big accomplishment. Our bond just grew stronger from there on out. It was so strong now, that I didn’t even have to call out moves, because he already knew what moves I wanted him to use, we were that much in sync. Granted, I did call them out anyways just for the hell of it.

Shadow had won me many gym badges. The most memorable was the one where he helped me take out two Ground type Pokémon at Viridian City gym. That was quite a feat for us because Ground type Pokémon and Ground type moves were one of Shadow’s weakness. It was because of that that made the accomplishment that more memorable. He took down Rhydon and Onix, but feel to Aggron. He could have beaten Aggron had he not used up most of his energy against Rhydon and Onix.

I looked back at the battle field; Shadow was just finishing taunting Beheeyem. Beheeyem hadn’t moved yet, so I wasn’t quite sure if Taunt had worked the way it was supposed to. However, Shadow was not going to stop and wait to see if that was the case. Instead, he’d move on the next step of the plan. The next step was Double Team.

To be totally honest, I wasn’t really interested in capturing and adding Beheeyem to my team. I was interested however, in having him with me as a friend. Perhaps in the long run, I’d use him in a battle, but for now, friendship was all I sought. I hoped he would provide me with a good battle. I didn’t want to be bored on this run; a little excitement would be good.

I couldn’t help but to wonder how strong this Pokémon was. Now that I thought about it, I didn’t know much about this Pokémon other than what the Pokedex just told me. I wasn’t sure I had ever even seen one prior to today. If I had, I didn’t recall right now. I had seen Elgyem before, but not in an actual battle. It was just playing with its trainer at the Nacrene City Pokémon Center. Communication with this Pokémon was hard, but once you figured out the color patterns, it would be easy. Many people tried to decipher the code, but it is unclear to me if any had succeeded. I supposed the same pattern could mean two different things to different people. It all depends on how they interpret it. I was going to dedicate some time to attempt to learn this communication method. I wanted to further understand this more. That was the only way that I was going to learn more about Beheeyem. That was the only way I was going to understand it. I wasn’t sure if it could communicate telepathically like other Psychics do, but I doubted it. Mindbender and I also had a strong bond. She was also one of my most used Pokémon. She had a diverse movepool with all types of attacking and nonattack moves. She could inflict every status condition there was and also heal herself up when the time needed as well as her teammates. She could communicate with me telepathically. She also created a mind link with my other Pokémon so I could read their thoughts and they could read mind whenever we wanted. Of course we respected each other’s privacy and asked for permission before doing so, but the link has made my team and I a whole lot stronger.

Shadow’s Taunt attack worked perfectly. I now didn’t have to worry about Beheeyem using any non attacking moves on Shadow. His Trick Room, status infliction, or whatever else he was trying to pull was now stopped. This was a good thing, because Taunt now forced him to use an attacking attack. Beheeyem, being Psychic and all, was going to have to rely on moves that were attacking, and that were not Psychic. Shadow, being a Dark type Pokémon, was usually immune to the powers of Psychic Pokémon. There were some Pokémon that could do some damage to Shadow with Psychic energy, but for the most part, he didn’t have to worry about any Psychic type doing any major damage. Since Psychic type moves was Beheeyem’s strongest type move, I wasn’t too worried about any attack he could dish out. From what I remember the Pokedex telling me, Beheeyem had the moves Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt. Battle wise, Shadow Ball was the worst thing it could do. Ghost type attacks did next to nothing to Shadow, so unless he was trying to drop his Special Defense, I didn’t see Beheeyem using Shadow Ball. Of course, that was only if Beheeyem was thinking battle wise like me, which I wasn’t totally sure judging by his demeanor. Thunderbolt was much more appropriate in this case. Shadow was not resistant to Electric type attacks, they did neutral damage to his as would such a move from say Normal, Flying or Poison. Aside from those, Shadow also resisted Dragon and Bug. He didn’t have a times four weakness to anything like Larvesta did to Rock type moves, which was good. However, he was pretty weak to Fighting, Ground, Rock, and Water type moves. Despite those four, he was quite resistant to a lot of other types of moves. The obvious being Fire and Dark types, but he also resisted Ghost, Steel, Grass, and Ice type moves.

So yeah, since Beheeyem didn’t have any Fighting, Ground, Rock, or Water type moves, as far as I knew, the best option for it to do was to use a move that did normal damage, Thunderbolt being the example here. Not only that, but it also had the chance to paralyze Shadow, something that would be hard for us to recover from without the use of an item.

I was quite surprised when I saw the move choice Beheeyem chose to use against Shadow. As soon as I saw the greenish yellow orb form between the multicolored tipped fingers, I knew it was Energy Ball. It was one of the moves that Shadow could easily resist. I was now unsure of what Beheeyem was doing. I was positive that it knew what Shadow was weak to since it could easily know be reading my mind. Also, most Pokémon know what effects the Pokémon they are weak against incase they need to defend themselves. I came to the conclusion that Beheeyem wasn’t really trying to hurt us. Shadow immediately created several clones of himself so that Beheeyem couldn’t easily hit him with another move, even if it hardly did any damage.

I was even more surprised when Beheeyem chose its next move. Beheeyem further proved my point on not trying to hurt us when he began forming a gooey looking, ghastly orb of energy between its brown arms. That move was Shadow Ball, yet another move Shadow was resistant against. Beheeyem launched the attack towards Shadow, making impact. However, it did not hit the real Shadow, he had hit a clone. The clone of Shadow instantly disintegrated into dust and blew across the field. Had that move hit, it wouldn’t have done much to Shadow anyways.

The only thing I had to worry about now was what move I was going to use next. I didn’t want to totally hurt Beheeyem too badly because I did have the type advantage here, that and Shadow was incredibly powerful. I knew Shadow’s Bite attack wouldn’t knock Beheeyem out, but I wasn’t quite sure if Crunch would. I wouldn’t want to use it if did. I had confidence in Shadow though and I knew he wouldn’t knock out Beheeyem because he knew I wanted to try and capture it. I was just going to avoid it all and go for a Flamethrower; I knew for sure that wouldn’t knock out Beheeyem. I knew Flamethrower could leave a burn status, but the chances of that happening were small, which was something I was for once glad of. I didn’t want Beheeyem to be burned because that might knock him out faster and cause me to change my plans. I just wanted to stay on the plan I already had mapped out and avoid having to change it.

“Okay Shadow, let’s try a Flamethrower attack buddy.” I called out to my dog Pokémon. With that, Shadow and his remaining clones opened their large snouts, which showed their incredibly sharp teeth. If you looked carefully, you could see the flames rising in the back of their mouths and coming forward. As the flame emerged, he created a small ball of fire in front of him. With a blow, he let out a stream of flames towards Beheeyem. It was coming down to the end of the battle finally. I knew it wasn’t over just yet and that Beheeyem might still possibly be able to turn this around, but I didn’t really see that as a likely outcome.

Beheeyem was going to make a nice add to my team. Not my battling team, but my Ranger team. He could sure come in handy with Mindbender. I really liked his attitude, and he was extremely friendly. He would get along great with my other Pokémon.

‘Fantastic job, buddy!” I called out to Shadow. The large hellhound and his two clones cried out happily. He knew he had done a good job, but he especially loved hearing it from me or anyone in general. He didn’t have a big ego, he just liked hearing that. Then again, who didn’t enjoy being praised or rewarded. This battle seemed all too easy. Beheeyem wasn’t putting up much of a fight. I had observed this well before the battle started, which is why I wasn’t adding Beheeyem to my battling team, but Beheeyem was a lover not a fighter. This was all obvious because of the choice of moves he last used, they were clearly ineffective towards Shadow since he could resist them, that and because he had two clones up.

The Flamethrower Shadow dished out failed to burn the Cerebral Psychic type Pokémon, which was something I had been hoping for. Usually it was the other way around, but had Flamethrower burned Beheeyem, then it probably would have knocked it out with my next move. That was something that would be unfortunate. The park rules stated that if a Pokémon was unconscious, you could not attempt to capture it. This was probably because they wanted the Pokémon to be somewhat conscious when you were trying to capture it so that they could have a chance to break free if they so wished. I didn’t totally understand that concept, because you could capture Pokémon that were asleep, paralyzed, and even confused. That surely altered their state of mind, and according to the park rules, they should not be allowed to be captured in this state. However, that was not the case and you could do so if you managed to put a status condition on the Pokémon. A paralyzed Pokémon could in fact want to try to escape, but would be unable to do so because it couldn’t move. I wasn’t sure if breaking free of the Pokeball was a physical or mental thing, but if it was physical, then paralyzed Pokémon wouldn’t be able to break free. If it was mental, confused Pokémon wouldn’t be able to break free. I was going to have to look more into this after I left this contest run.

I knew my next move would do some serious damage towards Beheeyem because it was a Dark type move, super effective against Psychic types like Beheeyem. The move was Crunch, and in order for it to work, Shadow had to get in close. Getting in close would make it easier for Beheeyem to hit Shadow since he would be at a closer ranger. This was where his clones came in though. Beheeyem would have a hard time knowing which of the three the real Shadow was. He had a thirty three percent chance of hitting him, which was good for us, but the odds for him were bad.

As soon as I said that, I saw several rocks come from the ground and levitate over one of the Shadow clones. Before it could move to avoid the attack, Beheeyem let go of the rocks and the Shadow clone disintegrated. That move totally caught me by surprise since it was an actual super effective move. I had no idea Beheeyem could even use that type of move. Granted, its attack power wasn’t that great, it was actually finally battling smart. That made me wonder if it had actually been playing with us this whole time and what his true intentions were. Or maybe we had just been in an illusion. I wasn’t so sure anymore, but one thing I was sure of was that this little guy was sure wily at these mind games.

With only one clone left, using Crunch was going to be that much harder. Beheeyem now had a fifty percent chance of hitting Shadow, his odds just jumped up a lot. I had to move fast before he attacked again.

“Shadow, use Crunch.” I called out. Shadow and his clone didn’t waste any time. They charged at a pretty decent speed towards Beheeyem, their mouths opened wide and showing their incredibly sharp teeth. He was going to run up to Beheeyem and bite down as hard as he could onto the Psychic type. Crunch being a dark type move, it was going to get a small power boost which would help in the end. I wasn’t sure how good Beheeyem’s Defense was, but I hoped it wasn’t that good, at least not at this very moment.

As Shadow inched closer to the Cerebral Pokémon, I reached into my backpack and pulled out a Superball from my bag and quickly enlarged it. I wasn’t sure how much damage Crunch would do to Beheeyem, but I could only hope that it was enough to ensure my capture. I had dragged this battle on too long. This was only my first encounter and I still had a long ways to go with only a short amount of time left. I was a bit hesitant on throwing this Superball, and it might have been a bit stupid of me to do so since if it missed it would break, but I didn’t want to prolong this any longer. As soon as Shadow bit down on Beheeyem, I was going to launch the sphere towards the Psychic type.

The Crunch takes a lot out of the Psychic type, but it manages to get off one last attack on Houndoom before the ball sucks it up. You proceed down the math path and soon a snoring fills the air. A Drowzee is laying in the middle of the path sleeping.

Shadow went in for the final blow. The closer he got to Beheeyem, the more worried I got that Beheeyem had some sort of scheme built up to deflect this attack. I knew Taunt was still in effect, so whatever it was had to be something that dealt damage rather than a non attacking move. Once Shadow was in range, he didn’t waste any time. He crunched down hard on Beheeyem, snapping his mouth close shut and refusing to let go no matter how hard Beheeyem struggled. Once Shadow let go, Beheeyem looked extremely tired and worn out now. Despite this, Beheeyem still had the strength inside of him to dish out one last attack. I wasn’t sure what type of attack it was, but it did minimal damage to Shadow. Even though he wasn’t really good battle wise, he did have great endurance. Judging by the strength of the attack Beheeyem just did, I knew it was too weak to move on. If this wasn’t the perfect time to throw my Pokémon, I wasn’t sure what time was. I pressed the center of the sphere, and the Superball quickly grew three times its size. I took aim at Beheeyem and launched my Pokeball. Shadow jumped up into the air and with his tail, slammed the ball hard towards the Cerebral Psychic Pokémon. As soon as the Pokeball hit the Pokémon, the sphere shot open and a red light darted out and engulfed Beheeyem. Beheeyem was sucked into the sphere and the Superball fell to the ground. It shook multiple times, but I knew I had it secured. I walked over towards the ball and picked it up.

“Awesome. We caught it Shadow!” I called out happily. Shadow raised his paw and I high fived him. “Let’s go rest underneath that tree over there for a bit.” I knew we didn’t have a lot of time, but I wanted to give him a bit of time to catch his breath. I didn’t want him to run out of energy in the next battle, if we so decided to battle anyone else.

After ten minutes, Shadow said he was ready. He still looked like he could use ten more minutes, but he protested that he was ready to go. I just sighed and nodded. We took off down the path. We didn’t get very far though. Shadow stopped abruptly in front of me, almost making me fall over him. I looked at him after I caught my balance, wondering why he had stopped. His tail curved up and his ears were rotating in all directions as he was trying to locate something. Shadow looked at me and signaled at me with his head to follow him. I didn’t ask, I just quietly followed. When we emerged from the bushes, I saw a small bipedal Pokémon that resembled a tapir. Its eyes were closed and it was sleeping. The long trunk of a nose moved up and down as the Pokémon breathed in and out. Its short yellow arms were crossed against its chest, I noticed it only had three fingers on each hand. The upper half of its body is yellow and the lower half is brown with a wavy line separating the two halves. It had two stubby light brown toes on each foot.

Like with Beheeyem, I didn’t know much about this Pokémon. I quickly pulled out my Pokedex and pressed the button, sending out the light green light that hit the round pot belly on the Pokémon.

Drowzee – the Hypnosis Pokémon. Drowzee is a Psychic type Pokémon that has the obvious ability Insomnia. It also has the abilities Foreworn and Inner Focus. These Pokémon are about three feet to five feet tall and weigh between seventy to one hundred pounds. Drowzee are able to put people to sleep. They can then sense the dreams the people are having, so they know what kind of dream they would be eating. Drowzee is also known to inexplicably conjure up poisonous gas. Wild Drowzee live in very tall grass, by muddy rivers, in savannahs, and occasionally in ancient temples and tombs. Drowzee has certain preferences for the dreams it eats, and it is known to love fun dreams and rarely eat the dreams of adults, as the dreams of children are seemingly tastier. Drowzee remembers every dream it has eaten, and may show dreams it has eaten in the past to a person that often sleeps by it.

“Well, another Psychic type that likes to play tricks.” I whispered to Shadow. “Want to bother battling it?” Shadow looked at the sleeping Pokémon and nodded. “We will just have to watch out of his Hypnosis. I am pretty sure he’d start off with that. It is a good thing your ability is Early Bird.”

I walked over towards Drowzee and tapped it on the shoulder. “So hey, you want to battle us?” I asked and I woke it up. Drowzee looked at us with a ‘what the fuck’ look on his face. As it stood, it glared angrily at Shadow and me. This Pokémon wasn’t as happy to see us as Beheeyem was. I didn’t care though, all I wanted to do right now was battle it. I would apologize after the battle, whether I caught it or not.

Drowzee let out some steam from its long trunk nose like a Tauros or Bouffalant would and scraped its foot on the ground. I took that as a yes.

“Okay Shadow, let’s get things started with Will-o-Wisp.” I said to my partner. Will-o-Wisp was a Fire type move that dealt damage every now and then because it burned the target. When Shadow used Will-o-Wisp, he would release several small light blue orbs of fire that were incredibly hot towards his opponent. If and when they hit, the opponent would then become burned.

I wasn’t sure what sorts of tricks Drowzee would come up with for this battle, especially since he was mad, but whatever he did come up with, Shadow and I would be ready to counter it if it proved to be too much to take. I was hoping Drowzee wasn’t too good of a battler like Beheeyem was, but judging by the way it was acting now, I knew I wouldn’t get so lucky. I was determined though, to have this battle end faster than the battle with Beheeyem did, even though that battle wasn’t that long.

Drowzee knew many Psychic and Poison type attacks, neither of which would do much damage to Shadow. I didn’t want to underestimate Drowzee like I did with Beheeyem and Rock Slide, which was unexpected. I was going to be more ready this time than I was last time. From a battle I saw online, the only move that I was aware of that would do some good damage was Brick Break, but I knew Drowzee wasn’t that good with physical moves as it was with special moves. That, and the fact that I was planning on burning it would do very little damage.

You awake the sleeping Psychic and use a WoW attack. The Psychic is not expecting such an attack and is quickly burned by the move. It grows angry and responds with a Taunt attack to forestall in more such moves.

Drowzee seemed surprised by the move I chose for Shadow to use. I suppose he was thinking I would start off with a straight out attack, which was something I was considering. I wanted Shadow to use an attack, but then I remembered this type of Pokémon knew Brick Break so I quickly decided to cripple his physical attack to prevent and major damage. When Drowzee moved to begin his attack, I too was surprised by how he chose. I was expecting him to attack angrily at us. Instead though, he began taunting us, the same thing we had did to Beheeyem. This would have been a good tactic for Drowzee to start off with, but it was pretty futile at this point as I had no further intention of using a non-attacking move. I just hoped Drowzee wouldn’t retaliate with a status condition of his own. Hypnosis wouldn’t be that effective, but it would put a damper on the time I wanted to spend here. I wasn’t sure what other status condition moves it knew, but I just had to hope it wouldn’t slow me down.

“Alright Shadow, be extra cautious now. I want you to use Dark Pulse on this Pokémon. Watch out for the tricks it may have stored.” Shadow barked loudly, acknowledging that it understood and trying to frighten Drowzee at the same time. I wasn’t sure if the Drowzee would be fazed by it, but it was worth a shot anyways. Dark Pulse was a Dark type move like Shadow, and it was also a special type attack, the type that Shadow was particularly good at using since his Special attack was higher than his Attack at this point, even though I liked to keep it all even.

Shadow moved forward and created a small black band around his head area. The band expanded about three feet. Dark energy surrounded him and flowed into the band he had created. I reached into my bag and pulled out a Parkball. This was a whole lot earlier than I did with Beheeyem, but I was going to attempt it anyways. I quickly enlarged the sphere and readied myself to throw it towards Drowzee. Shadow let loose several dark rings of his dark energy towards Drowzee. Being a Psychic type, this was going to do a good amount of damage. How much, I wasn’t sure, but I was hoping it would be enough for me to capture this guy.

As soon as Shadow’s Dark Pulse closed in on Drowzee I arched my arm back and tossed the Parkball at Drowzee. All I could do now was watch and wait to see what would happen. If I did capture Drowzee, the contest rules stated that I could only take one Pokémon out, so I wasn’t even sure which of the two I would take. Or if I would run into any more Pokémon that I’d be interested in capturing. I sort of wanted to run into a Gastly or maybe even a Zorua. Zorua would fit in with the Pokémon I’ve encountered today because they all used tricks in battles or just in general. I wasn’t sure what else I would be interested in capturing. I watched the Dark Pulse inch closer and closer, with my Parkball still close behind.

The Dark Pulse does great damage to the Psychic, but it fights back with a Signal Beam hoping for confusion, but it doesn’t happen. You throw the ball and Drowzee is caught. This time you head up the valley flanks and run into a Vullaby.

Shadow's attack hit Drowzee with Dark Pulse attack, which did an incredible amount of damage. Drowzee countered with Signal Beam, but that was all it had time to do because the Parkball hit Drowzee and a similar, but darker light shot out and sucked Drowzee in. The ball shook twice and then remained motionless on the ground. I walked over towards Drowzee's Pokeball and picked it up. We rested again, but for a shorter time, then we took off again. About fifteen minutes later, we came across a Vullaby.

"Want to battle Vullaby?" I asked Shadow. Shadow just shook his head, he, like I, was uninterested in battling this Pokemon. "Alright, let's hightail it out of here."

"Well, good thing that Pokemon didn't want to battle us, huh?" I said to Shadow once we were away from the bird. Shadow nodded and let out a sigh. We didn't get to rest long though, a small dog like Pokemon barked at us from up ahead on the trail. It was a small Poochyena. Shadow grinned and let out a growl. I was hoping that would be enough to make the Poochyena turn and run away. If not, then we were going to have to battle it, and I wasn't too thrilled to do that, especially since it didn't look that old.
