Thread: "Thanks" button

the main fear for the 'like' button was it would be an incentive for a popularity contest

the thanks button would be an incentive for people to help others something that would be valued in the community

so for that reason i vote UP

DOWN ...I really don't see why we would need this. If nobody uses the rating system, that's partly YOUR fault.

I prefer the reputation or karma system

A old forum I used to be a member of also had a thanks button. It didn't serve any purpose whatsoever except for sparking fights and popularity contests. Sure, on forums like Hongfire it might work due to that particular forum's nature, but this is a discussion forum.

I'm voting DOWN on this one.

DOWN. A "Thanks" or a "Like" button is quite useless by itself. I don't think we want a Thanks-count contest.
